Background: Neonatal jaundice occurs in about 60% of neonates. If not managed properly, it can progress to severe neonatal jaundice leading to death or permanent disability. Aim of this study: To assess nursing care provided to neonates undergoing phototherapy. Design: A descriptive design was utilized in this study. Setting: The study was carried out in the neonatal intensive care units affiliated to Helwan General Hospital and Ain Shams University Obstetric Hospital. Subject:The study included 80 nurses working at the previously mentioned setting and one hundred and twenty neonates.Tools:Two tools were utilized for data collection in a period of 4 months, (1) A questionnaire sheet to assess nurses’ knowledge and (2) An observation checklist to assess nurses’ practice regarding neonates suffering from jaundice and undergoing phototherapy.Results: The results revealed that,the majority of the studied nurses had poor knowledge, more than three-quarters of the studied nurses had a poor level of actual practice regarding nursing care for neonates undergoing phototherapy and there was a highly statistical significant relation between nurses’ knowledge & practice. Conclusion: The study concluded that, nurses had a poor level of knowledge and practice regarding the nursing care for neonates undergoing phototherapy. Recommendations: Develop educational training programs for meeting actual educational need assessment of nurses dealing with neonates undergoing phototherapyto update nurses’ knowledge and practices toward providing comprehensive, concise and complete nursing care for neonates undergoing phototherapy.

Competency of nursing care activities of nurses working at neonatal intensive care units together with advancement in medical science and technology increased the survival rate of newborns that need specialized care. To ensure the quality of care and provide the safety of patients, assessing the competency of nursing care activities of nurses working at NICU seems necessary. This study aimed to assess competency of nursing care activities at the neonatal care units. Design: A descriptive design was used. Setting: The study was carried out at the neonatal intensive care units affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospital. Subjects: A purposive sample of 70 nurses working at the previously mentioned setting, regardless their characteristics. Tools of data collection involved an interviewing questionnaire (that was constructed by the researcher after reviewing related literatures to gather data in relation to characteristics of nurses such as age, qualification, years of experience……etc) and observation checklist (to assess competency of nursing care activities at neonatal intensive units). Results: The study findings revealed that nursing care activities at NICU were incompetent by nearly two thirds (64.3%) of them. There was a statistically significant difference between the total mean scores of nursing care activities competencies skills at NICU and their age, qualifications, years of experience and social status. Conclusion: The study concluded that more than half of studied nurses were having incompetent nursing care activities at NICU. Recommendations: The study recommends continuous assessment and upgrading of competency of nursing care activities at NICU.

This study was aimed to assess pregnant women knowledge regarding the oral health care. Study setting: The study was conducted at ante natal outpatient clinic At Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital. Study design: A descriptive study design was used. subjects and method : The study was conducted among pregnant women were attended at antenatal outpatient clinic At Ain Shams University Hospital 265. Study simple: Purposive sample. Study Tools: Self – administered structured questionnaire sheet, was developed to collect data. Result: There were three quarters of study sample of pregnant women had unsatisfactory knowledge about oral health care during pregnancy. Conclusion: the current study concluded that most of the study sample had unsatisfactory knowledge regard oral health care during their pregnancy period. Recommendations: Emphasize the importance of oral health care during pregnancy to prevent the oral health problems for both mothers and their infants.

Background: Training, either on-the-job or off-the-job, is the only means that may improve such lack of competencies in documentation. Aim of the study: To investigate the differences between on-the-job and off-the-job training of nurses in documentation of nursing practice. Subjects and methods: This quasi-experimental study was carried out at the primary health care (PHC) centers in Giza Governorate on two cluster samples of 75 nurses each, one for on-the-job and the other for off-the-job training. A self-administered questionnaire was used for nurses’ knowledge and an audit sheet for their practice of documentation. The intervention consisted of a 2-day training in nursing documentation. Results: In total, only one (1.3%) nurse in each group had satisfactory pre-intervention, which increased to 94.7% in both groups after the intervention (p<0.001). Overall, no nurse in the two groups had adequate total audit before the intervention. After the intervention, none in the on-the-job and 4.0% in the off-the-job had adequate audit (p=0.24). Knowledge and audit scores significant positive correlation (r=0.698). Conclusion and recommendations: Both on-the-job and off-the-job approaches are effective in improving nurses’ knowledge of documentation, but with less effect on their audited achievement of documentation criteria

Postoperative care is very important phase for patient, as it can prevent or reduce the occurrence of the complications. Aim: Assess factors affecting postoperative nursing performance in the surgical units. Research design: A descriptive exploratory design. Setting: surgical units at Benha university hospitals. Subjects: Convenient samples of 75 nurses were worked at the previously mentioned setting at the time of data collection. Tools of the study: self-administered questionnaire and an observational checklist. Results: more than three quarters of the studied nurses had unsatisfactory level of knowledge, more than three quarters of the studied nurses reported that the total factors had an effective effect on their performance, about two thirds of the studied nurses had unsatisfactory level of practice, there were highly statistical significant relation between studied nurses' Knowledge and their experience, while there was statistically significant relation between studied nurses' knowledge and their job and their education, statistically significant relation between studied nurses' practice, their job, their experience and the courses which were taken, highly statistical significant relation between factors affecting nursing performance in the surgical unit and their age, while there was statistically significant relation between factors affecting nursing performance in the surgical units and their marital status and their experience, statistically significant relation between studied nurses' knowledge and studied nurses' practice, anda significant correlation between studied nurses' knowledge and a studied nurses' practice. Conclusion: It was concluded from this study that nurses' performance depends on education, training, experience and attending of courses. Recommendations: The study recommended the importance of implementing an educational training program to improve nurses' performance regarding management of patient after surgery, and recommended to develop a good nurse job description.

Nurses' Compliance with Patient Safety Standards in an Accredited Hospital

Background: Patient safety standards are the most important of all accreditation standards. Aim of the study: to assess nurses' compliance with patient safety standards in an accredited hospital through assessing their knowledge, compliance, and documentation of patient safety standards. Subjects and methods: The study was carried out at "Dar Al-Shifa" Hospital using a descriptive cross-sectional design on 89 staff nurses. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire for nurses’ knowledge, an observation checklist for compliance, and an audit sheet for reviewing documentation. Results: Nurses’ age ranged between 19 and 55 years, mostly females (82.0%), with diploma degree in nursing (87.6%). Most nurses (84.3%) had satisfactory total knowledge of patient safety. Their compliance was lowest for hand hygiene (68.5%), and labeling medication containers (53.4%), while 86.5% had adequate total compliance, and 94.4% had adequate documentation. A significant positive correlation was found between the scores of compliance and related documentation (r=0.273). In multivariate analysis, training in leadership was a significant positive predictor of the compliance and audit score, whereas a higher qualification was a negative predictor. Conclusion and recommendations: The majority of staff nurses in accredited hospital have satisfactory knowledge of patient safety, adequate total compliance with patient safety standards, and adequate related documentation. All hospitals should to seek accreditation due to its positive impact.

Background: Coronary catheterization can be a stressful experience for many patients because of its invasive nature and potential risks. Aim: Assess psychosocial problems among patients undergoing coronary catheterization. Setting: the cardiac department and cardiac care unit at Ain Shams University specialized hospital, Egypt. Sample: A purposive sample composed of 100 patients undergoing coronary catheterization attending the previous mentioned setting. Tools: First tool, socio demographic interviewing sheet. Second tool, disease history questionnaire. Third tool, Patients' psychological and social problems questionnaire. Results: The mean age of studied patients was 53.6±4.2, more than two thirds of them were married, more than one third of them had technical institute education, the majority of the studied patients were working, More than two thirds of the studied patients were males and more than half of the studied patients were had enough monthly income. There is a highly statistical significant relation between age, gender and marital status of the studied patients and their severity of psychosocial problems. Conclusion: About half of the studied patients were always fear from death, anxious due to unknown procedure about catheterization & fear from hearing that someone death due to catheterization. Also, more than one third of the studied patients were always had family support by frequent visits, need others help before and after procedure, fear from affecting sexual desire & feel fatigue when doing any activities. Moreover, more than one third of the studied patients were always change work style after catheterization procedure, decrease ability to prognosis & decrease working hours. One third of the studied patients were sometimes had medical insurance & treatment at the expense of the state, while one third of them was rarely not had enough monthly income. More than one third of the studied patients were always had psychological, social & work respectively. Recommendations: Further research studies are needed for ongoing assessment of patients including large sample for generalization of results

Aim: the present study aimed to assess quality of life for women suffering from pain regard cesarean section Design: A Descriptive study design Setting: This study was conducted at postpartum unit at Ain Shams University Hospital. Sample: purposive sample included 200 primary cesarean section women. Tool of data collection: interviewing questionnaire sheet, visual analogue scale, and quality of life sheet. Result: the mean age of the studied women was 26.23±4.01 years. The current result reveled that more than half of the studied women had severe pain post delivery within 20 minutes,2 hours,4 hours and 6 hours of operation respectively. Moreover, less than half of studied women had low level in physical domain while,more than half had moderate level in psychological domain. In addition, more than half of them had moderate level in social domain. There was statistically significance difference between socio-demographic characteristics and level of total score of quality of lifeConclusion: women were young age, pain score was severe, the studied women had low physical, moderate psychological and social quality of life Recommendation: Developing awareness program for enhancing woman's knowledge regarding improving quality of life post cesarean section. Further researches on, identify factors affecting quality of life for cesarean section during postpartum period.

Parents dealing with childhood cancer face many different stressors throughout the course of their child's illness. The responsibility is often on caregivers. Aim of the study was to assess the effect of discharge plan for children undergoing chemotherapy and their caregivers on improving practice and coping pattern. Research design: Quasi - experimental design was utilized. Settings: The study was conducted at Children Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University and Pediatric oncology unit in National Cancer Institute affiliated to Cairo University (NCICU). Subjects: Purposive sample of 50 caregivers of children undergoing chemotherapy were recruited from the previously mentioned settings. Tools: A data were collected by using; interview questionnaire format(before and after implementation of discharge plan) to assess informational needs, Observational checklists to assess practical needs, anxiety & depression scale and coping scale to assess emotional and psychological needs. Results: This study revealed that more than half of caregivers were primary school. Less than two thirds of caregivers‟ knowledge gained good scores after intervention. There is a statistically significant difference between caregivers' knowledge before and after implementation. Only one quarter of caregivers had no anxiety before intervention compared to less than half of them after intervention. Conclusion: This study concluded that caregivers who received discharge plan showed improving in knowledge and practice regarding care of their children, experiencing less level of anxiety and coping with stressful events during children illness. Recommendation: the study recommended that multidisciplinary team should be involved in teaching and helping the caregivers and their children to be managed from an apparently common sequence of physical and emotional reactions.

Aim of this study: This study was aimed to assess effect of audio teaching programme on blind girls about reproductive health knowledge & attitude. Design: A quasi-experimental design was applied to achieve the aim of the study. Setting: The study was carried out in El-Nor and El-Aml School in Cairo City( Mustafa Asaker), Elfayoum City& Benisuef City. Sample :purposive sample included 60(6%) blind girl were found in El-Nor and El-Aml school, staying and not staying at school. Criteria: Aged 12-19 years, blind girls, attained menarche, unmarried & able to communicate. Tool: Data was collected through An interviewing questionnaire which include three parts 1) socio-demographic characteristics of the girl 2) assess their knowledge about reproductive health. 3) Likert rating scale to assess attitude regard reproductive health. Results: after applying the audio teaching program the study shows high significant improvement in blind girl's knowledge and attitude regarding reproductive health post program with highly statistically differences (P<0.001). Conclusion: According to the finding and research hypothesis, the blind girl's in El-Nor and El-Aml schools their knowledge & Attitude were upgrading after implementation of the audio teaching program about reproductive health. Recommendations: The study recommended that continuous health educational program should be provided to adolescents blinded students& their teacher's about reproductive health & findings emphasize that information about reproductive health should be included in the school curriculum, and that there should be better communication between female students and their teachers, and between daughters and mothers.

This study aimed to assess nurses‟ knowledge, attitude and practice toward physical restraint for psychiatric patients. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted at psychiatric emergency departments at El-Abbassia Mental Health Hospital in Cairo. Sampling: A convenience sample of 100 nurses who are working in the previously mentioned settings. Tools: A structured questionnaire sheet to assess nurses‟ characteristics, their knowledge and their attitudes toward physical restraint. The second tool was an observational checklist to assess nurses‟ practice toward physical restraint. Results: revealed that nearly half of the studied nurses were aged between 20 to 30 years and nearly two thirds of them were females. Nearly half of the studied nurses were graduated from technical nursing institute and more than two fifths of them had less than 5 years of experience. Also, it was clear that more than two fifths of them had satisfactory level of knowledge about physical restraint. While two thirds of the studied nurses had incompetent level of practice regarding physical restraint and more than three quarters of them had negative attitude toward physical restraint. Conclusion: The study concluded that, the majority of the studied nurses had unsatisfactory level of knowledge, negative attitudes and incompetent level of practice regarding physical restraint. Recommendations: The study recommended that, implementation of training program for nurses regarding physical restraint. Continuous monitoring and teaching on spot from nurse supervisor is needed to ensure quality of care provided by nurses for physical restraint of psychiatric patient.

Renal transplantation is the surgical implantation of a human functioning kidney from either living donor or a cadaver into a patient with end-stage renal failure. Aim of the study: to assess biopsychosocial needs of patients post renal transplant. Design: A descriptive exploratory design was utilized. Setting: this study was conducted at out-patient clinics of the National Institute of Nephrology and Urology in Matariya Hospital. Study subjects: A Purposive sample including all patients admitted to outpatient clinics in the previous mentioned setting. Data collection tools: 1)Patient`s interviewing questionnaire, it includes the following parts, 1) concerned with demographic characteristics of the study subjects (age, gender and marital status),2) Past medical history of patients under study,) Biopsychosocial needs assessment sheet including the following sections: A) Physical needs assessment, B) Psychological needs assessment, C)Social needs assessment, D) Educational needs assessment. Results: the study showed that, the common systemic needs among studied patients were cardiovascular system alterations followed by rest and sleep alterations. Regarding daily living activity function, it was found that more than one third of patients under study had severe function impairment. Conclusion: this study concluded that, regarding psychological needs, it was found more than one third of study subjects had moderate depression and extremely severe anxiety level. Recommendation: the study recommended supportive care services in any hospital care setting should be directed towards meeting biopsychosocial needs of patients post renal transplant.

Tertiary Trauma Survey: Nurses' Performance and Poly-trauma Patients Outcome

Tertiary trauma Survey is an important tool for detection of missed injury and some trauma units have created their own protocol for tertiary trauma surveys to decrease the incidence of missed injuries in trauma patients. Aim of the study: This study aimed to assess nurses' performance regarding tertiary Survey and Poly-trauma patients outcome. Research Design: A descriptive exploratory design was utilized. Subjects: A convenient sample of all available nurses (50 nurses) who are working in intensive care unit at Emergency Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. A purposeful sample composed of (50) adult patients from both gender diagnosed as poly-trauma patients was recruited from the same unit. Methods: Data were obtained through three tools; Self-administered questionnaire for nurses, Nurses practice observational checklist tool and clinical outcomes tool for patients. Results: Nurses under study had unsatisfactory level of knowledge and practice regarding tertiary trauma survey. There were high statistically significance positive correlation between total level of knowledge and practice. There was difference between injury severity score and laboratory investigations and hemodynamic status, physical assessment and radiological findings of poly trauma patients on admission and after 24 hours. Conclusion: Less than half and less than one-third of the nurses under study had an unsatisfactory level of knowledge and practice respectively, regarding tertiary trauma survey and there were high statistical significance positive correlation between total level of knowledge and total level of practice. Poly-trauma patients' outcome, there was difference between injury severity score and laboratory investigations and hemodynamic status, physical assessment and radiological findings of poly trauma patients on admission and after 24 hours Recommendations: In research: Research is needed to follow the patients' outcome and missed injury. Replication of the current study on larger probability sample is recommended to achieve generalization of the results

Background: A high Quality of Working Life (QWL) is critical for healthcare organizations to attract and retain qualified, committed and motivated employees. Quality of working life refers to an employee‟s satisfaction with working life. Aim: The present study aimed to assess the relationship between quality of work life and turnover intention among staff nurses. Research design: Descriptive- correlational design was used in carrying out this study. Subjects: 148 nurses were included in the study. Setting: This study conduct at Alagouza Governmental Hospital. Tools: two self-administrated questionnaires namely: Quality of work life and Anticipated turnover scale. Results: There was a statistically significant correlation between total home life score and nurses' socio demographic characteristics, while there was a statistically significant correlation between total work design score, total work context score, total work world score, total quality of work life, total intending to leave score and nurses' socio demographic characteristics except with no training course. There was a negative statistically significant difference between nurses' intention to stay and intention to leave and intention to stay by their quality of work life perception. Conclusion: There was a highly positive statistically significant correlation between qualities of work life dimensions. There was a negative statistically significant correlation between quality of life dimensions and intending to leave. Recommendation: The nursing administrators might be able to improve the level of QWL by increasing nurses‟ satisfaction with job security, professional recognition, work conditions, work schedule, workload and nursing staffing.

Background: principals of communicating information among healthcare providers are through patient care documentation. Accurate, timely, thorough and concise documentation can be the deciding factor for whether a patient lives or dies. Aim: The present study was aiming at utilizing training as a means for improving staff nurses’ documentation skills. Subjects: 63 nurses were included in the study. Setting: The study was conducted at inpatient units at Al Helal hospital. This hospital is affiliated to Ministry of Health Specialized Medical Centers. Methods: three tools were used to collect data for this study. Knowledge assessment questionnaire, an observational checklist, Pre and post-test simple questions according to the title of each session. Results: slightly more than two fifth of staff nurses had high level of knowledge regarding total documentation dimensions in preprogram phase, while all staff nurses had highly knowledge in post phase and slightly decline at follow up phase with highly statistically significant improvement with all the phases of intervention. majority of staff nurses had low total performance level at preprogram phase while four fifth of them had high performance level at post phase and three quarter of them had high performance level after three months of training intervention with highly statistically significant improvement in total documentation performance level with all the phases of intervention. Conclusion: There was highly statistically significant improvement in total staff nurses’ documentation knowledge and performance level during post and follow up phase as compared with preprogram phase. This supported the study hypothesis which stated, staff nurses documentation skills will be improved after implementing the training intervention. Recommendation: dissemination of manual for new staff nurses contains documentation skills. Dissemination of information and research finding should be done online to improve its utilization.

Background: Mothers of children with epilepsy have significant worries and stress around the epilepsy diagnosis, comorbidities, treatments and management of disease that maintain over time. The aim of this study: To assessthe stressors and coping patterns of mothers having children with epilepsy. A descriptive Design was conducted at the outpatient clinic in the Neurological pediatric outpatient clinic affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. Subjects: A purposive sample(100) of children suffering from epilepsy and their mothers. Tools of the study involved, structured questionnaire sheet to assess the children and their mothers,characteristics as well theirknowledge about epilepsy. ParentingStress Index to assess parents, stress. Also, Coping patterns scale to assess the mothers, coping patterns toward their children suffering from epilepsy. Results: The present study revealed that, the mean age of the children was 5.78±3.9 years and more than two fifth of them were ranked as the third child and more in their families. More than half of the children were male. The mean age of the mothers was 32.2±6 years and less than one third of them had secondary education. As regards the mothers, occupation, the majority of them were housewives. More than one third of the mothers had a moderate level of psychological stressors,while, more than half of them had a moderate level of social stressors and less than two thirds of them have high levels of physical stressors. Additionally, more than half of the mothers had a moderate coping patterns regarding their children with epilepsy. Conclusion: The results of this study concluded that, themothers of children with epilepsy are facing with many stressors resulting from their children with epilepsy; these stressors included physical, psychological and social stressors and moderate coping patterns regarding their children with epilepsy. Recommendation: Emphasize the importance of availability and distribution of pamphlets and booklet containing the basic knowledge for mothers about the disease of their children.

Repetitive negative thoughts are generally viewed as a specific cognitive vulnerability factor that seems to be involved in the etiology and maintenance of emotional problems. The existing study aimed to investigate the role of repetitive negative thoughts in the vulnerability for emotional problems and determine the prevalence rates of this problems among secondary schools' adolescents, hence, a descriptive cross sectional study design was used. A self- administered questionnaire sheet was used to collect data from 480secondary schools' student. Study results revealed that there were significant positive correlation between neuroticism as an indicator of general vulnerability, repetitive negative thoughts and emotional problems. Whereas, behavioral inhibition had a significant negative correlation with repetitive negative thoughts and emotional problems. Further, more than three quarter (77.6%) of the studied students have symptoms of depression and majority (87.3%) of the studied students have symptoms of anxiety. Conclusion, depression and anxiety had high prevalence rates among adolescents. also, repetitive negative thoughts contribute to adolescents' vulnerability for depression and anxiety. Consequently it is recommended to Conduct school and community-based mental health promotion and prevention programmes directed toward adolescents, their families, educational staff and others who have direct contact with adolescents. And consider repetitive negative thoughts clinically can be effective in treatment of depression and anxiety.

The aim of this study was to: assess quality of life for women after hysterectomy. Design: Descriptive study. Setting: The study was conducted at the outpatient clinics of Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital and Bab El Sha'rya University Maternity hospital. Sampling: Purposive sample of 160 women with hysterectomy. Data collection: Two tools were used; 1st tool: An interviewing questionnaire included six parts: Part I: Socio-demographic characteristics, Part II: a) Reproductive history b) Health history, Part III: Factors related to hysterectomy, Part IV: a) Assessing health complaints after hysterectomy b) Assessing health problems after hysterectomy c) Assessing health needs after hysterectomy, Part V: Assessing women's knowledge about hysterectomy, Part VI: Assessing women's quality of life after hysterectomy. 2nd tool: Follow up medical record Results: Family history, unhealthy life style, and obesity were found to be associated factors with hysterectomy. Most of women had unsatisfactory knowledge regarding hysterectomy. Constipation, osteoporosis, dyspareunia, and anxiety were found to be the most health problems after hysterectomy. More than three quarters of women were not compliant with follow up after hysterectomy. Less than half of women reported poor quality of life after hysterectomy. Conclusion: A highly statistically significant difference was found between the studied women's knowledge and their quality of life after hysterectomy. Statistical significant differences were found between the studied women's socio-demographic characteristics and their knowledge, their compliance with follow up, and their quality of life after hysterectomy. Recommendations: This study recommended increasing the awareness among women after hysterectomy through effective educational programs, carrying out effective discharge plans for women with hysterectomy including follow up visits schedule, the required examinations and healthy lifestyle guidelines.

The aim of the study was to assess the impact of self-learning package regarding care of children with head injury on nurses' knowledge and performance. Research design: A quasi experimental study was utilized for conducting the study. Settings: The study was carried out in Neurosurgery Department, Emergency Department and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Benha University Hospital. Subjects: A purposive sample consisted of 100 nurses working in the previously mentioned settings and providing direct care for children having head injury. Tools and data collection: A questionnaire formats to assess nurses' knowledge, and observation checklists to assess practices followed by administration of the self-learning package. Results: The study revealed that there was a statistical significant difference between nurse's performance about care of children with head injury pre and post implementation of the self-learning package. Conclusion: The study concluded that, the implementation of self-learning package upgrade nurses' performance regarding care of children with head injury. Recommendations: The self-learning package for nursing care regarding head injury in children should be available in Neurosurgery Department, Emergency Department and Pediatric Intensive care Unit to be followed by all nurses and updated periodically. Further researches should be performed in a large scale for generalization of the research results.

Background: Nurses are very vital and valuable asset of hospitals. A hospital’s success might not be realized without its nurses' support and involvement. Nurses need to be motivated to be able to provide quality of patient care and retain in their work place. Aim: this study aimed to assess the influence of motivation on staff nurses' intention to quit Research design: A descriptive correlational design used in this study. Setting: Ain Shams University hospitals. Study subjects243staff nurses were included in the study, simple random sample was used. Data collection: two tools used to collect data motivation scale and staying or leaving index, Results: about half of studied subjects had low motivation level,less than one quarter of studied staff nurses had high motivation level, less than half of studied staff nurses had moderate level of intention to quit. Conclusion: There was statistically significant correlation between motivation and intention to quit. Recommendations: conducting periodical meeting between hospital mangers and staff nurses to discover work problems and develop solutions for these problem. Hospital management has to appreciate staff nurses sharing in decision making.

Cardiac catheterization is the gold standard diagnostic test for coronary heart disease. The aim: the present study was conducted to assess the association between time of ambulation and clinical outcomes of patients after cardiac catheterization. Methodology: Setting: the study was conducted at the cardiac catheterization units at Ain Shams University Hospital and Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital. Design:The descriptive exploratory research design was utilized in this study. Subject: A purposive sample of 150 patients was used in the study. Tools: 1) Patients’ interview questionnaire to assess patients' demographic characteristics data and patients' medical history. 2) Patient post cardiac catheterization clinical outcomes which included Vital signs: (temperature, blood pressure, respiration, pulse), O2 saturation, lower peripheral perfusion and cardiac catheterization site assessment. 3) Visual Analogue Pain Scale to assess pain intensity. 4) Anxiety Scale to measure the level of anxiety. Results: there was a highly statistically significant relation between patients' age and vital signs reading at the fourth hour after ambulation p value is<0.001, and there was a statistically significant relation between patients' age and pain intensity in the first and the second hour p value is <0.05, also there was a highly statistically significant relation between them in the fourth hour after ambulation p value is <0.001. Where pain intensity decreased among the patients at the fourth hour'. And there was no statistically significant relation between patients' gender and pain after cardiac catheterization p value is >0.05. Conclusion: Patients on supine position with restricted on bed rest increased the intensity of back pain level at a time (1h) and then decreased at the time third and fourth hour after cardiac catheterization. Recommendation: early ambulation after cardiac catheterization is safe and its' suggested to improve patients' outcomes.

Background: Menopause is a normal part of life. Menopausewomen experience a wide<br />range of menopause symptoms, that effect on lifestyle patterns and physical, psychological, social<br />and spiritual. Menopausal symptoms will different from woman to other and difficultly to<br />determine severity of symptoms. Design: Aquasi-experimental study was used utilized for the<br />conduction of this study at menopause women. Aim of the study: to evaluate the effect of<br />health Awareness program towards minimize symptoms of menopause women. Setting: study<br />was conducted at outpatient clinics of the maternity and gynaecological hospital affiliated to Ain<br />Shams University hospitals. Sample: purposive sample included 60 menopausal women was<br />used. Tools of data collection were : 1). structured questionnaire which divided into two parts for<br />assessing the socio demographic characteristics, second part was assessing menopause women‟s<br />knowledge(pre / post-tests). 2). an observation checklist (pre / post-tests) to evaluate women‟s<br />reported practice toward menopausal symptoms. Results: the majority of studied menopausal<br />women were married and half of them housewife In addition there were statistically<br />significant improvement to minimize menopausal symptoms were in post-tests compared to<br />pre-test through effect of awareness program(p-value<0.001**) Conclusion Health awareness<br />program had positive efficient on improving menopausal women„s knowledge and practice<br />toward menopausal symptoms. Recommendations: Increase women awareness about per<br />menopausal period so reduce the severity of menopausal symptoms. Also further research<br />addressing women's health needs is also essential for improving the quality of life of menopausal<br />women.

Background: Pesticides are chemicals that are used to kill or control pests which include<br />insects and rodents, in addition to a virus, bacteria, fungi, and other organisms. They play a<br />key role in the protection, prevention, responding to outbreaks, and control of infectious<br />diseases. The continuous exposure of the workers to pesticides leads to adverse health<br />outcome due to that the workers do not apply safety measure guideline. Aim: of this study was<br />to evaluate the effect of safety measure educational guideline on knowledge, practice and<br />adverse health outcomes among pesticide workers. Subjects and methods: Design: A quasi<br />experimental design (one group pre/posttest) was used for the conduction of this study.<br />Setting: The study was conducted at all sections of disease vector control of the General<br />Department of Vector Control, in the Directorate of Health Affairs, at Cairo Governorate. The<br />sample: A convenient sample from (120) pesticide workers. Tools of data collection: The<br />study included three tools: A structured interview questionnaire, an observation checklist<br />(pre/post-tests) and a self-reported health assessment sheet of adverse health outcomes of<br />pesticide workers. Results: All of the pesticide workers were male with a mean age33.2 ± 4.7<br />and less than two third are married. The study denoted that there were poor total knowledge<br />and inadequate total practice score pre educational guideline and highly significant (p=0.000)<br />improvements of total score of workers knowledge and practice at the post-test. Conclusion:<br />The educational guideline had a positive effect on pesticide workers knowledge and practice.<br />In addition , a significant reduction was observed in posttest regarding adverse health<br />outcomes. Recommendations: Periodic safety measure educational guideline for all workers<br />exposed to pesticides with continuous use of personal protective equipment and following<br />safety instructions.

Background: A vaginal pessary is one type of nonsurgical treatment for pelvic<br />organ prolapse, which preferred by a wide of women with pelvic organ prolapse.<br />The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of empowering self<br />management among women using vaginal pessaries on vaginal symptoms and<br />quality of life. A Quasi-experimental design was utilized in the current study.<br />Setting: The study was conducted in outpatient clinic affiliated at Obstetrics &<br />Gynecological Department at Banha University Hospital during the period from<br />January 2017 and completed at the end of December 2017. Subjects: A purposive<br />sample of total 80 women using vaginal support pessaries. Tools: Three tools were<br />used for data collection, general characteristic interviewing questionnaire, pessaries<br />related knowledge and reported self -care practice assessment tool, The<br />International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire & the prolapse<br />quality of life tool. Results of the study showed a highly statistically significant<br />differences regarding knowledge and self-care practice vaginal support pessaries<br />and quality of life at different times of assessment (p < 0.000). Conclusion:<br />empowerment of self-management among women using vaginal pessaries was<br />highly effective on reducing severity of vaginal symptoms and improving quality<br />of life. Recommendation: Based on the findings of this study the following<br />should be recommended: The nurses should be familiar with self-care measures for<br />vaginal pessaries in addition to more researches should be conducted considering<br />the demographic and obstetric factors that have a crucial role in precipitating self<br />management for vaginal pessary.

Diabetic foot ulcer is a debilitative disease with severe consequences in diabetic patients. Wound<br />healing is a complex biological process that restores skin integrity. Conventional dressings were<br />found ineffective for these ulcers. Insulin accelerates wound healing in diabetes by enhancing<br />growth of different cell types and affects proliferation by keratinocytes, endothelial cells, and<br />fibroblasts. Aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of topical insulin on diabetic wound healing<br />among patients with diabetic foot ulcer. Research design: A quasi experimental research design<br />was utilized. Settings: The study was conducted at inpatient vascular surgery department at<br />Alexandria Main University Hospital. Tools of data collection: One tool was used for data<br />collection. It consisted of two parts. Part I: Socio demographic and clinical data and Part II: Bates<br />Jensen wound assessment tool. Results: The result of the study revealed that there was statistical<br />significant improvement in all items of foot ulcer assessment in the study group over control after<br />two and three weeks of daily topical insulin dressing. There was statistical significant improvement<br />in diabetic foot ulcer severity among the study and control groups after one week, after two and<br />three weeks daily topical insulin dressing. The findings of the present study also showed that<br />diabetic foot ulcer in the study group need less time than the control group for complete healing.<br />Conclusion: This study concluded that patients with diabetic foot ulcer who receive topical insulin<br />dressing exhibit enhanced healing rate than patients who do not receive such intervention.<br />Recommendations: Incorporate the technique of topical insulin dressing in clinical nursing<br />curricula, evaluate this method on other type of wound than diabetic foot ulcer and in service<br />training programs for nurses about topical insulin wound dressing.

Background: High risk pregnancy can introduce additional psychological stress on the<br />pregnant women. Also, poor coping skills during pregnancy are associated with negative outcomes.<br />The effects of perceived social support and uncertainty on the psychological well-being of high<br />risk pregnant women can be mediated by their prenatal coping patterns. Aim: This study aimed to<br />assess the mediating effects of prenatal coping patterns of the perceived social support, and<br />uncertainty on the psychological well-being of high-risk pregnant women. Design: A cross<br />sectional, correlational study design was utilized on 162 high-risk pregnant women according to<br />certain inclusion criteria and who were attending outpatient clinic in Obstetrics and Gynecology<br />Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. Tools of data collection: The data was<br />collected using an interview questionnaire that included five sections as the following: 1) patient's<br />demographic characteristics and obstetric history 2) The Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale; 3) The<br />Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) Social Support Survey; 4) The Prenatal Coping Inventory; 5) and<br />The Psychological General Well-Being Index. Results: data and path analysis revealed that,<br />planning/preparation for motherhood negatively mediated the effect of uncertainty on<br />psychological wellbeing of high-risk pregnant women; planning/preparation for motherhood<br />mediated the effect of perceived social support on psychological wellbeing of them; and perceived<br />social support had direct effect on psychological wellbeing of the studied subject. Regarding the<br />psychological well-being, perceived social support, uncertainty, and prenatal coping pattern of the<br />studied high-risk pregnant women, less than half of them had moderate psychological distress, less<br />than two third of them had high perceived social support, more than two third of them reported low<br />level of uncertainty, the majority of them reported less use of avoidance, less than two third of them<br />reported less use of spiritual coping, whereas more than three quarters of them reported frequent<br />use of planning/preparation for motherhood. Conclusion: The study concluded that prenatal coping<br />patterns (problem focused coping) mediated the effects of uncertainty and perceived social support<br />on the psychological well-being of the studied high-risk pregnant women. Recommendation:<br />Incorporating psychosocial assessment in routine prenatal screening for women experiencing<br />medically complex pregnancies with continuous and routine screening for depression and anxiety

Now a day a high prevalence of unhealthy dietary intake habits, poor hygienic care, sedentary life as<br />well as physical inactivity among secondary school adolescents is a major health concern.<br />Therefore, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficiency of self-care education on<br />lifestyle of secondary school students. Methods: Design: A quasi-experimental research design was<br />conducted during the years 2017-2018. Sample: The study sample included 200 students which<br />selected randomly from two secondary schools at Port Said City. Tools for data collection: It<br />included: A structured questionnaire was developed and designed by the researchers to collect data,<br />it consisted of two parts: part (1): question related to age, dietary habits, hygienic care, sedentary<br />life and bodily exercise, part (2): Assessment of anthropometric measurement. Results: Females<br />were somewhat younger than Males, males were taller, obese and females had significantly lower<br />mean of BMI than males. The studied sample had mean moderate -intensity physical activity and<br />vigorous -intensity physical activity and poor hygienic care pre interventions which improved post<br />implementation of education. Majority of secondary school students spent more than 4 hours on<br />Mobile daily, which decreased significantly after the self-care education. The studied sample had<br />poor dietary habits pre which corrected post implementation of education and there was highly<br />statistically significant improvement (P ≤ 0.001).before training which increased after training<br />(p < 0.05). The majority of them did not have breakfast, fruit, vegetables which were significantly<br />improved after implementation of self-care education, p < 0.01. The studied sample had mean high<br />sedentary time pre interventions which decreased post implementation of education and there was<br />highly statistically significant improvement (P ≤ 0.001). Concerning sleep hours, there was highly<br />statistically significant improvement (P ≤ 0.001) which increased post implementation of self-care<br />education. Conclusions: Findings from the present study confirms that self-care education had<br />positive effects on enhancement of healthy lifestyles such as practicing bodily exercise, personal<br />hygiene, Lessing of sedentary life, promoting sleeping and eating habits of secondary school<br />students. Recommendation: There is a crucial necessity for developing self-care education<br />regarding healthful eating, lessening sedentary and encourage bodily activity, improving personal<br />hygiene, promoting sleeping, and eating habits amongst secondary school students.

Background: Nowadays, human resources is the most important input for all of the organizations. <br />From this aspect, the justice within the organization and the organizational commitment are <br />undoubtedly the most important elements in using the human factor efficiently. Aim of the study: <br />This study aimed at identifying the relationship between organizational justice and organizational <br />commitment of faculty staff members and their assistants in (Beni-sueif and El-fayoum)faculties of <br />nursing design: a descriptive correlational study design was utilized. Subjects the study was <br />conducted on 196 faculty staff members and their assistants setting: the study was carried out at <br />Beni-sueif and El-fayoum faculties of nursing. Tools: two tools were used to collect data. First <br />tool: self-administered questionnaire sheet which was consisting of two main parts. Part: <br />sociodemographic data sheet and part: organizational justice questionnaire sheet. Second tool: <br />organizational commitment questionnaire sheet. Results: the study revealed that, faculty staff <br />members and assistants had low organizational justice and commitment with relatively high <br />percentages of high organizational justice and commitment among faculty staff members than <br />assistants; 42.6%with high organizational commitment of faculty staff members in front of 29.2% of <br />assistants, regarding organizational justice. percentage of faculty staff members with high <br />organizational justice was 40.4% while among assistants it was 24.8% , the dimensions of <br />organizational commitment ranged as following: continuance commitment are the highest then <br />normative then affective commitment is the least and the highest percentage of organizational <br />justice dimensions was interactional justice and the lowest was distributive justice. Conclusion: <br />there were statistical significant positive correlation between organizational justice dimensions and <br />organizational commitment dimensions: r=.635. Recommendations: conduct training courses for <br />the faculty administrators on the importance of organizational justice perception on organizational <br />commitment.<br />

Background: Nurses play a vital role in the healthcare system, providing continuous 24-hour care<br />to hospitalized patients. Nurses established themselves as an essential element of other<br />disciplines within the hospitals. Aim: The present study aimed to assess nurses' perception toward<br />their professional rights and its' relation to their job satisfaction, professional and organizational<br />commitment. Design: A descriptive correlational design was utilized to achieve the aim of the<br />present study. Sample: A convenient sample (n=118) of nurses who working at Internal Medicine<br />Hospital and who agreed to participate in the study were included. Setting: The study was<br />conducted at Internal Medicine hospital at Cairo University Hospitals. Tool: Four questionnaires<br />were used as follow; nurses ' perception toward their professional rights, nurses` job satisfaction<br />scale, nurses` professional commitment questionnaire and nurses` organizational commitment<br />questionnaire. Conclusion: The current study concluded that, more than half of the sample was<br />perceived their professional rights and more than half of the sample was satisfied with their job and<br />more than half of the sample was not committed to nursing profession, while, near to the half of the<br />sample was committed to their organization. Moreover, there was a highly statistically negative<br />correlation between staff nurses' professional rights and their job satisfaction. In addition, there was<br />significant positive correlation between nurses` professional and organizational commitment and<br />nurses` perception about their rights. Recommendation: Increasing the awareness of nursing<br />personnel about their professional rights by holding workshops and lectures on a regular basis<br />through the training and education department team in the hospital and monitor and report hospice<br />professional nurse's turnover rates periodically in light of management's enhanced focus on<br />improving nurses` satisfaction, professional and organizational nurse's commitment.

Background: Early marriage known as child marriage, is defined as any marriage carried out below<br />the age of 18 years, before the girl is physically, physiologically, psychologically and social ready to<br />shoulder the responsibilities of marriage and childbearing. Early marriage therefore has major<br />consequences for public health, national security, social development, human rights, economic<br />development and gender equality. Aim: assess associated health consequences regarding early<br />marriage among female children in Giza Governorate. Methodology: design: descriptive<br />correctional design was utilized at August 2018 - November 2018. Setting: Baharms village at<br />Manshiat El-kanater center in Giza Governorate. Subject: Simple random sample included 100<br />girls experienced with early married before 18 years. Tools of data collection: Tool I: Pre designed<br />interview questionnaire sheet included demographic data related marriage. Tool II: Bio-psychosocial<br />hazards questionnaire sheet among female children. Results: 37% of the selected female children<br />exposed to aged from 16 – 18 year during married. 75% of selected female children had previous<br />early marriage in their families. 76% of the female children did not have enough information about<br />marriage before their marriage. 41% of the selected female children forced marriage. Conclusions:<br />The current study indicated that more than half of the selected female children experienced<br />menstrual disorders, vaginal tearing and bleeding from the effects of intercourse, While the current<br />study showed that the selected female children experienced violence, troubles in the sexual<br />relationship. Regarding social hazards, the majority of the selected female suffered from withdrawal<br />after marriage, and the majority of them did not support the idea of early marriage. There was highly<br />statistically significant with positive correlation between biological hazards and psychological<br />hazards. Also, there was highly statistically significant with positive correlation biological and social<br />hazards. As well as, there was highly statistically significant with positive correlation between<br />psychological and social hazards regarding early marriage. Recommendation: Applying health<br />education program among female students in preparatory schools and their caregivers to increase<br />their awareness regarding early marriage and health consequences. Periodic follow up for female<br />children by midwifes, obstetrics and gynecological nurse and family health nurses to detect health<br />consequences related early marriage. <strong>Background:</strong> Advocacy is the essence of nursing’s professional commitment to the preservation of human rights, protection of patients from harm, and the provision of quality patient care. <strong>Aim:</strong> To investigate the nurses’ advocacy toward patients and its relation toward patients’ satisfaction<strong>. Design:</strong> Descriptive correlational design was used in this study. <strong>Sample:</strong> The study subjects included (33) nurses and (120) patients both<strong> </strong>male and female.<strong> Setting:</strong> Data was collected from inpatient units at Badr University Hospital affiliated to Helwan University in Egypt.<strong> Tools:</strong> Two tools were used for data collection: Protective Nursing Advocacy Scale and Patients’ satisfaction toward advocacy questionnaire. <strong>Results:</strong> The majority of studied nurses had high advocacy toward their patients (91.9%), and the majority of studied patients were highly satisfied with nursing advocacy (98.2%). <strong>Conclusion:</strong> The study concluded that, there was a moderate significant positive correlation between total protective nursing advocacy scale and total patients’ satisfaction toward nursing advocacy, which answer the research question <strong>Recommendations:</strong> Incorporate nursing advocacy concepts and patient rights into the nursing curriculum in order to cultivate growth of the nursing student’s advocacy abilities needed to work with patients in different clinical settings.

<strong>Background: </strong>The neurological care nurse practices the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) as a consistent, reliable, and objective neurological tool used to assess the alteration in consciousness level. <strong>Aim: </strong>assess the impact of the Glasgow coma scale training program on nurses’ knowledge and practice in the neurological department. <strong>Research Hypotheses: </strong>there will be significant differences in the total mean score knowledge and practice of neurological care nurses before and after implementing the training program. <strong>Research design</strong>: A quasi-experimental research design (single-group interrupted time series design)<strong>. Sample</strong>: A convenience sample of 34 nurses who worked at neurological and stroke departments. <strong>Result:</strong> most of the studied sample (79.4%) were female. The total mean nurse’s knowledge scores increased in the second assessment time as compared to the first assessment time (18.5<span style="text-decoration: underline;">±</span>2.81 – 2.60±4.36) respectively. However, there was a slight decline in the third assessment mean knowledge scores to be 16.93<span style="text-decoration: underline;">±</span>3.01 as compared to the second assessment mean scores with a significant statistical difference between the three assessment times (F/P= 236.994, 0.00.P ≤ 0.05). Also, the nurse’s mean practice score regarding implementation of GCS in the second assessment was greater than the first assessment (2.83±0.25 - 0.61±0.69) respectively. Also there was a slight decline in the third assessment mean practice score to be (2.5±0.7) as compared to the second assessment mean practice scores with a significant statistical difference between the three assessment times (F/P= 131.100, 0.001.P ≤ 0.05). <strong>Conclusion</strong>: The mean knowledge and practice scores of the studied sample regarding the Glasgow coma scale after exposure to the training program was higher than before exposure and all the studied sample had unsatisfactory knowledge and practice before exposure while after exposure most of the studied sample had satisfactory knowledge and practice regarding GCS. <strong>Recommendation: </strong>activating the application GCS within the neurological departments with continuous training and supervision for nurses.

<strong>Background</strong>: prematurity is a global health problem with leading cause of infant death, mothers as the primary care giver need home care program of premature babies to ensure best practices and enhance their ability in attending to their infants’ needs. <strong>Aim of the study:</strong> evaluate the impact of home care program on knowledge and practices of mothers of premature babies and their infants’ physical growth. <strong>Research Design: </strong>A quasi experimental study with pretest-posttest nonequivalent groups design. <strong>Research hypothesis: </strong>The mothers with premature infants who received home care program have higher mean score of knowledge and practices, also, improvement of their infant’s physical growth than those in the control group. <strong>Subjects and Method</strong>: A purposive sample consisted of 184 mothers and their premature infants divided into two groups (study & control), 92 for each were selected from the premature outpatient follow up clinics attached to premature unit at Abu EL- Reish Pediatric hospitals and El Manial University hospital, Cairo University. A structured interview questionnaire included demographic characteristics, Mother’s knowledge and practices. In addition, growth measurement of the premature infants. <strong>Result: </strong>Mothers’ knowledge and practice for caring premature infants were significantly higher than the total mean scores of those in the study group post and follow up program intervention (p=<0.000). Also, the premature infants in study group had good growth rate compared to the control group. <strong>Conclusion:</strong> the developed home care program led to significant improvement on mothers’ knowledge and practices regarding caring of their premature infants, and consequently led to improve physical growth rates among their premature infants. <strong>Recommendation:</strong> Interventions are needed to be given to mothers at home to improve their ability of caring their premature infants.

Background: Parents of child with leukemia are hidden patients in need of <br />protection, which they have a significant negative impact on their psychological wellbeing. <br />Resilience is an aspect of psychosocial care that affects the parents' well-being. Aim: This <br />study aimed to assess resilience and psychological wellbeing among parents of child with <br />leukemia. Design: A descriptive research design was utilized in this study. Setting: this <br />study was carried out in children’s cancer hospital in Egypt 57357 at fifth floor. Subjects: <br />simple random sample of 93 parents of child with leukemia. Tools: 1) Interviewing Socio- <br />Demographic Questionnaire, 2) Connor-Davidson Resilience scale, 3) Ryff’s Psychological <br />Well-Being Scale. Results: the study revealed that half of parents of child with leukemia had <br />moderate levels of resilience and psychological wellbeing. Conclusion: The current study <br />results revealed that there was positive significant correlation between resilience and <br />psychological well-being among parents of child with leukemia. Ultimately, these results <br />may assist the research in Psychiatric Health Nursing department to design interventions that <br />influencing resilience among parents of child with leukemia. Recommendations: Future <br />research to assess the factors that influencing resilience among parents of child with cancer

<strong>Background</strong>: Autologous bone marrow transplantation is an intervention for a variety of life-threatening diseases. Stem cells transplantation procedures continue to be improved, making transplantation a treatment option for many patients. The unique and intensive nature of this treatment requires distinctive knowledge and care during and post the entire transplant course . <strong><em>Aim to </em></strong>assess the knowledge of the caregivers of post autologous bone marrow transplantation patients at home. <strong><em>Research</em></strong> <strong><em>Design:</em></strong><strong> </strong>A descriptive study. <strong><em>Sample:</em></strong> A convenient sample was comprised a total number of 143 patients, during the six months attend the follow up clinic at bone marrow transplantation unit.<strong><em> Setting:</em></strong><strong> </strong>The study was conducted at outpatient follow-up clinics, bone marrow transplantation unit in Sheikh Zayed Specialized Hospital, National Oncology Institute, and Nasser Institute. <strong><em>Tools</em></strong><em>:</em> Two tools were used for data collection. <strong><em>First tool:</em></strong> A self-administered questionnaire of patients and their caregivers’ demographic data. <strong><em>Second tool</em></strong>: Caregivers’ knowledge toward post autologous bone marrow transplantation patients at home.<strong> </strong><strong><em>Results:</em></strong> This study indicated that, most of caregivers of the studied sample were totally need to improve their knowledge, and there were significant association between caregivers’ demography and their knowledge. <strong><em>Conclusion</em></strong>: Caregivers had poor knowledge of post autologous bone marrow transplantation. <strong><em>Recommendation:</em></strong><strong> </strong> Although caregivers had adequate knowledge on some aspects, gaps were identified. There is a need for educational interventions and discharge plan to upgrade knowledge, post autologous bone marrow transplantation patient at home.

<strong>Background:</strong> Motivation is a concept used to describe an external state inspiring a special behavior and internal responses revealing that behavior. Empowerment means engaging employees in the thinking processes of an organization, getting employee's ownership of their jobs and the resulting products or services produced by it. <strong>Aim</strong> of the study: The study aimed to exploring the relationship between motivating work factors and empowerment among staff nurses <strong>Setting & subjects:</strong> Research design: a descriptive correlational design utilized in carrying out .The study conducted on 140 staff nurses working at Met Ghamer Hospital; which affiliated to Ministry of Health, Tools of data collection: two tools used namely motivating work factors questionnaire and the condition for work effectiveness questionnaire. <strong>Results:</strong> majority (95%) of the studied subjects had low perception regarding total motivating work factors. In addition, majority (96.4%) of the studied subjects had low empowerment levels <strong>Conclusion:</strong> there were highly statistically significant positive correlations between motivating work factors and sources of empowerment among staff nurses. <strong>Recommendations:</strong> Support nurses’ professional development and self-determination.

<strong>Background</strong>: Women had sexual problems experience of physical, psychological and social problems that affect their quality of life, sexual activity and sex satisfaction level. The present <strong>study aimed </strong>to assess female sexual satisfaction among newly married women.<strong> A descriptive </strong>study design was conducted at the outpatient gynecological clinic of the Ain Shams Maternity Hospital. <strong>Subjects</strong> (500) of newly married women who suffered sexual problems <strong>Data were collected</strong> through two types of tool, a structured interview questionnaire sheet, and sex satisfaction sheet. <strong>The results</strong> of the study revealed that the study subjects suffered from sexual problems as painful intercourse, the inability to be arousal, a lack of orgasm, and inhibited sexual desire, in addition to sexual satisfaction level among newly married women shows that slightly more than one third of women had high level of satisfaction while less one quarter had low satisfaction level. The <strong>study concluded </strong>Sexual satisfaction Level among newly married women shows that that slightly more than one third of women had high level of satisfaction, where that slightly more than one third of women had average satisfaction levels, while less one quarter had low sexual satisfaction levels.<strong> </strong>also there were highly statistically significant correlated between sexual problems and sex satisfaction level.<strong> Recommendation</strong><strong>,</strong> Premarital counseling programs for newly married women to ensure its validity in satisfying their needs and to motivate them , Further researches are needed to assess female sexual satisfaction among newly married women in other places

<strong>Background:</strong> Mental disabilities area lifelong condition that cannot be "cured" however, there are ways in enrich their lives, help them have a pleasant childhood through parents as a care giver<strong> Aim</strong>: The study aimed to assess the parental patterns of care for their children with mental disabilities. <strong>Study Design: </strong>A descriptive study design.<strong> Setting</strong>: The study was conducted at two governmental intellectual development schools at Embaba and El-Dokki <strong>Sample size:</strong> involved (150) studied children suffering from mental disabilities and their accompanying parents. Tools<strong> for Data Collection</strong>: <strong>(I)</strong><strong> </strong>A<strong> </strong>pre-designed structured interviewing questionnaire to assess parents knowledge about of mental disabilities.(<strong>II) </strong>assessment sheet for parental patterns of care. <strong>(III) </strong>Parents socialization styles scale.<strong> </strong><strong>Results</strong>: the study results revealed that, the mean age of studied children was (10.4±1.9).while the mean age of their mothers age was (37.7±1.4) the great majority of children receive care through mothers. More than half, of the parents had unsatisfactory knowledge regarding to disease of mental disabilities, approximately less than half of the children were had average pattern of care from parents in most daily living activities. <strong>Conclusion</strong><strong>: </strong>The parents’ knowledge was unsatisfactory regarding to mental disability. Also, the level of parental patterns of care was ranged from poor to an average level. There are positive correlation between parents’ knowledge and level of parents care. <strong>Recommendations:</strong> it could be recommended: continuous assessment for the level of knowledge of parents and implementation training programs for parents having children with mental disabilities to keep them update.

Background: Justice and job satisfaction are determinants of quality of work in any <br />organizationThe aim of the study is to investigate organizational <br />justice and job <br />satisfaction among nurses working at Ain Shams University Hospitals. Study subjects and <br />methods: A descriptive correlational design was used in this study and conducted in Ain <br />Shams University Hospitals (Medical Ain Shams University, Surgical El-demerdash, <br />obstetric and pediatric hospitals). The study subjects were 216 nurses (40 head nurses, 176 <br />staff nurses). Two data collection tools were used namely (organizational justice <br />questionnaire consisted of 18 statements categorized into three domains and job satisfaction <br />questionnaire covered ten dimensions of satisfaction and contained (64) statements). Results : <br />revealed that the highest percentages of job satisfaction among staff nurses in the <br />interpersonal hospital relation , and the same with the head nurses. It illustrated that both the <br />staff nurses and head nurses have low perception about justice . The study findings <br />concluded that there is a positive relationship between organizational justice and nurses' job <br />satisfaction. For that, the study recommended using motivation strategies by nurse leaders <br />to activate nurses, recommended improvement of salaries and reward systems.

Background: Electronic media become an integral part of students' lives. Electronic <br />media abuse has adverse effects on students' physical, psychological, social health and <br />academic achievement of university students. Aim: the aim of study was to assess effect of <br />electronic media abuse on health among university students. Subjects and methods: this <br />study was Descriptiveanalytic Sample: Multistage sample was selected and this study was <br />performed on 298 students Setting: four faculties at Beni-suef University.Tool Data were <br />collected using interviewing questionnaire including 1) Demographic characteristic of <br />university students 2) University students' opinions about electronic media abuse 3) <br />Academic achievement and electronic media use among university students 4) Effects of <br />Electronic media abuse on health of university students.. Results: the result of this study <br />showed that (100%) of university students used internet and (95.3%) of them used <br />smartphone 48.6% of university students had sever effect on psychological condition.43.6% <br />of students had sever effects on physical condition.62.7% of university students had sever <br />effect on social health and there is highly significant association between academic <br />achievement and use of social media in which (p= 0.0001). Conclusions: the studied <br />students had adverse effects of electronic media abuse on physical, psychological, social and <br />academic achievement. Recommendations: Increase university students' awareness about <br />hazardous technological effects on the human body and importance of face-to-face <br />communication to enhance social health of students.

The Impact of Media Violence on Primary School Children Behaviors

Background: Young population including children, represents more than a quarter of the <br />world’s population during the stage of human development, and risk-taking and violent <br />behaviors are prevailing among this group of people. Violence prevalence in television, <br />videogames and movies has been considered among the factors mentioned as causing <br />aggressive behavior among young people. Aim: Assess the impact of media violence on <br />behavior of primary school children. Setting: Two primary schools in Shebin El Kom at <br />menoufya governorate (Meet Mousa A males and El Shahid Ahmed Goda), Egypt. Sample: <br />A multi stage random sample was used. The total number of students was 320 in third and <br />fourth grade in these two schools. Tools: First tool, An interviewing questionnaire sheet. <br />Second tool, Anxiety scale for children. Third tool, aggression scale for children. Fourth tool, <br />Scale for violent media. Results: (52.4%) of the studied children were in age group of 8 to <br />less than 10 years, (53.8%) of them were female, (95.2%) of them had working father and <br />(49.3%) of them had working mother, (58.2%) of them were had one TV at home and <br />(79.8%) of them were had computer or play station. There was a statistical significant <br />relation between violent media (preferable player/artist), (preferable computer/video games), <br />(preferable cinema/computer films) and degree of aggression in the studied children. There <br />was statistical significant relation between violent media (Preferable computer/video games) <br />and degree of anxiety in the studied children. Conclusion: less than one quarter of children <br />had verbal and physical aggression. Less than one quarter of children had total aggression. <br />More than half of the studied children reported severe anxiety followed by moderate anxiety <br />level. Also, there was statistical significant relation between aggressive degree and socio- <br />demographic characteristics (sex, school grade, Amount per diem and No TV at home) of the <br />studied children. Moreover, there was statistical significant relation between anxiety degree <br />and socio-demographic characteristics (sex, mother work and No. TV at home) of the studied <br />children. Recommendations: Further research studies are needed for ongoing assessment of <br />children including large sample for generalization of results.

Background: Education is an ongoing process, providing personal and professional <br />stimulation to improve life. Since life is full of problems, the aim of education is to help <br />individuals to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to overcome these <br />problems. Aim of Study: to assess nursing student’s problem solving abilities at technical <br />institute of nursing. Subjects and methods: descriptive analytical study was carried out at <br />Al-zahra Technical Institute of Nursing affiliated to Al Azhar University. The sample <br />included all 83 nursing students enrolled in the fifth year during the academic year <br />(2017/2018). One tool were used in data collection, namely a self-administered questionnaire <br />to assess abilities of problem solving (PS). Results: students’ age ranged between 19and 20 <br />years. The majority of the nursing students computer abilities (79.5%) and were aware of <br />problem- solving (92.8%) although only 61.4% studied it. Meanwhile, 80, 7% of them stated <br />used PS in their personal life. Students in problem solving knowledge and skills were high <br />deficiency. Student’s knowledge scores had significant strong positive correlation with the <br />skills score. Conclusion: None of the nursing students had adequate knowledge and skills of <br />PS. The skills score had statically significant weak positive correlation with student’s GPA. <br />And positive correlation between nursing students’ scores of knowledge and skills (r=0.907). <br />Recommendation: The study recommends more use of the (PS) education approach and <br />PBL strategy in all nursing curricula; course planners need training in developing <br />educational problems.

Background: There are many barriers experienced by nursing students and affect <br />the quality of practical training and also affect students' satisfaction about their training. <br />Aim: This study was conducted to assess practical training barriers among nursing <br />students in critical care settings Method: This study was conducted in Central laboratory <br />at Faculty of Nursing Ain Shams University and Critical care settings at Ain Shams <br />University hospital. Sample: Purposive sample of 70 2nd year students were recruited in <br />the present study. Tools: 1) Student Interview Questionnaire.2) Student Satisfaction <br />Level Questionnaire. Results: The present study revealed that students' practical learning <br />is affected by many barriers including barriers related to communication between student <br />and faculty staff and nursing staff working at critical care units, lack of training <br />opportunities, lack of equipment and supplies, unavailability of simulators at skills lab <br />and presence of theory practice gap. Also, more than half of studied students are satisfied <br />with practical training at critical care settings. Conclusion: The results of this study <br />concluded that there were many barriers facing students during clinical training at critical <br />care (at hospital and faculty), also students have a moderate satisfactory level about their <br />practical training. Recommendations: Further studies should be designed to overcome <br />the barriers that have negative effect on clinical training quality and students' satisfaction <br />about their practical training at critical care units.

This study aim to assess quality of life among patients with depression through <br />assess the level of QOL among patients with depression and assess factors affecting QOL <br />among patients suffering from depression. Descriptive design was used to achieve the aim <br />of this study. Setting: This study was conducted at Outpatient Clinic of El-Abassia <br />Governmental Hospital for Psychiatric Mental Health. Subject: A convenience sample of <br />130 patients at Outpatient’s Clinic in El Abassia Psychiatric Mental Hospital. Tools: tool I <br />Structural questionnaire sheet to assess socio-demographic data and factors affecting quality <br />of life among patients with depression. And tool II, World Health Organization quality of life <br />scale, Result: The findings demonstrated that, more than half of studied patients were <br />females in the age group ˃37. This study revealed that, the highest percentage of subscales of <br />quality of life were the psychological health were poor among the patients with depression <br />and while, the lowest percentage was the environment was good. Also, showed that, the <br />highest percentage of factors affecting QOL among patients with depression were family <br />factors while, the lowest percentage of factors affecting QOL were social factors. <br />Conclusion: There were statistical significant relation between QOL, educational level and <br />financial income. Also, there are statistical significant relation between total factors affecting <br />QOL among patients with depression, sex and function status. Additionally, there were a <br />highly statistical significant relation between QOL and family, professional and social <br />factors. Recommendations: This study recommended that, depressed patients required <br />interventions that enhance quality of life, decrease factors affecting QOL among patients <br />with depression and develop an educational program to patients with depression and their <br />families on how to avoid and/or cope with depression to maintain normal life style at highest <br />possible level of QOL.

Background: Bronchial asthma is a serious health problem worldwide ،it is a major <br />cause of patients' disability and in rare cases causes sudden death; asthma morbidity and <br />mortality are largely preventable when patients and their families are adequately educated <br />about the disease and have access to high quality of care. Aim: This study aimed to develop ، <br />implement and evaluates the effect of self-management program on knowledge ،practice and <br />self-efficacy for patients' with bronchial asthma. The research hypotheses were that <br />implementation of self management program will improve the knowledge ،practice and self <br />efficacy. Methods: Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used with pre-post <br />and follow up assessment of outcome ،It involve four steps; pre self management program <br />assessment ،self management implementation ،post ،and follow up assessment. The study <br />was conducted at Chest Outpatient Clinic at El Kaser Al-Eini Hospital ،started April 2013 <br />and was completed by October ،2013. Sample: The study was carried on (130) a purposive <br />sample of asthmatic adult patients with bronchial asthma based on selected criteria. Tools: <br />Four tools were used for data collection ،1) Patients' Socio-demographic Characteristics and <br />Clinical Data Sheet ،2) Arabic questionnaire for patient' knowledge ،3) Checklist to assess <br />patients practices ،4) Self Efficacy Scale ، Results: The study revealed that there were a <br />statistically positive significant difference between total knowledge ،total practice ،and total <br />self-efficacy pre/post and follow up self-management program. Conclusion: The study <br />concluded that the studied patients have a higher mean knowledge, practice, and self efficacy <br />scores post self management program. The study recommended further study have to be <br />carried out in order to assess the effectiveness self management program on patients' <br />adherence to the prescribed therapeutic management.

Background: Nurse Manager's leadership style is very important for shaping a <br />nurse's personality by motivating their staff and increasing their nurse autonomy, self- <br />confidence, and decision-making. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between <br />nurse managers' leadership styles and their staff nurse's autonomy. Subjects & Methods; <br />Research design: a descriptive correlational design was used in carrying out this study, which <br />was conducted at general Suez Hospital affiliated to the ministry of health and composed of <br />seven buildings (emergency building, I.C.U and dialysis building, operating theater building, <br />burns building and laparoscope building, obstetric building and outpatient clinic building). <br />The study subjects were included in two groups namely: nurse managers group composed of <br />58 nurse managers and staff nurses group composed of 165 staff nurses. Tools: Two <br />questionnaires were used to collect the data namely leadership style questionnaire for nurse <br />manager and Autonomy questionnaire for staff nurses. Results: The study findings revealed <br />that, fifty percent of studied nurse manager were transactional and the majority of the studied <br />staff nurses had moderate level of autonomy regarding patient care, collaboration, patient <br />education, handling patient complaints, diagnosis discharge decisions, and the related issue. <br />Conclusion & Recommendation: Based on the study finding it concluded that, the majority <br />of the studied staff nurse mangers had transactional leadership style and the majority of the <br />studied nurse had moderate autonomy regarding to patient care, collaboration, patient <br />education, handling patient complaints, diagnosis discharge decisions, and related issues. <br />Hence, the study recommended that, development programs involve training, coaching and <br />mentoring and needs to explore the barriers that nurse face in autonomous decision-making.

Background: Diabetic foot ulcer is a major medical, social, economic problem and a <br />leading cause of morbidity and mortality. The most type of neuropathy affecting person with <br />diabetes is sensory neuropathy this can lead to the loss of protective sensation in the lower <br />extremity. The study Aims: to assess the factors affecting healing process of diabetic foot <br />ulcer among diabetic patients. Research design: descriptive exploratory design was utilized. <br />Setting: This study conducted in ICU and surgical department at ELArish General Hospital. <br />Subjects: The study subject includes75patients with diabetic foot ulcer as result of diabetes. <br />Tools of data collection:four tools were used for collection of data it included Patient <br />interviewing questionnaire, questionnaire about patient's knowledge about diabetes mellitus <br />and patients practice about foot care, Wagner classification system to assess wound grade, <br />Thai stress test questionnaire. Results: The present study finding showed that one thirds of <br />studied patients were old age, majority of studied patients had poor glycemic control, two <br />thirds of studied patients had diabetes from ten years ago, more than half of them had high <br />stress level and more than half of studied patients had unsatisfactory level of knowledge <br />about diabetes mellitus, while more than half of studied patients had good practices about <br />foot care. Factors that were significantly affect negatively ulcer healing were age, smoking, <br />obesity, wound grade, infection, debridement, blood glucose level, lack uses offloading <br />device and mental stress. Conclusion The study findings concluded that, the most factors <br />which affect wound healing were age, wound grade, infection, debridement blood glucose, <br />offloading device and mental stress. Recommendation Developing and dissminate a <br />simplified and comprehensive booklet including basic information about caring of diabetes <br />patient's.

Background: The incorporation of problem-based learning is now an expected part <br />of the student’s learning experiences, and student’s learning is the corner stone in all higher <br />education quality. Aim of the study was to assess the effect of problem based learning <br />versus traditional method of learning at nursing schools. Research design: A quasi- <br />experimental study was used. Settings: This study was carried out in El-Nile and Benha <br />secondary technical nursing schools, affiliated to the Health Insurance Organization, in <br />Qalyoubiah Branch. Subjects: A convenient sample included (60) students in third grades at <br />the previously mentioned settings. Tools of data collection: 1) questionnaire pre/ post <br />format consisted of two parts: First part was designed by the researcher to assess socio- <br />demographic characteristics of the student such as; age, father’s educational level, etc. <br />Second part it concerned with knowledge of nursing students towards iron deficiency <br />anaemia and marasmus. 2) Likert-type rating scale concerned students ’attitudes regarding <br />problem based learning versus traditional learning. Results: The main results showed that, <br />approximately half of students were from rural areas with a mean age of 17.61±1.41 years. <br />There were statistically significant relations between total knowledge regarding problem <br />based learning of the studied students and their age and their parents’ educational level. <br />There was no relation between total attitude of the studied students and their residence. <br />Approximately three quarters of studied students total attitude were agree regarding problem <br />based learning. Conclusion: As regarded of total attitude of studied students, the current <br />study concluded that, the problem based learning method significantly improved the learning <br />of the nursing students achievements compared with the traditional method. <br />Recommendations: Prepare tutors with capabilities and skills required for facilitating and <br />management of group dynamics and use of PBL during the teaching process and Integration <br />PBL as a method of teaching to students receiving pediatric course.

This study aimed to: assess the predisposing factors related to relapse among addicted <br />persons. Design: Descriptive study. Setting: The study was conducted at the Outpatient clinics of <br />El-Abbassia Mental Hospital and the Psychiatric Medical Center. Sampling: Purposive sample of <br />260 addicted persons. Data collection: An interviewing questionnaire was used and included five <br />parts: PartI: Socio-demographic characteristics, PartII: a) History of addiction b) Previous history <br />of relapse addiction, Part III: a) Assessing addicted person's knowledge about addiction b) <br />Assessing addicted person's knowledge regarding to relapse addiction, Part IV: a) Assessing <br />addicted person's needs b) Assessing addicted person's health problems, Part V: Assessing factors <br />related to relapse of addiction. Results: More than three - quarters of addicted persons were returned <br />to the same type of substance abuse during relapse. More than half of addicted persons were not <br />compliant with follow- up plan before relapse. More than half of addicted persons had unsatisfactory <br />knowledge regarding addiction and relapse. Less than two-third of addicted persons had inadequate <br />health needs. Conclusion: A highly statistically significant difference was found between the <br />studied addicted person's knowledge and needs, and their relapse of addiction. Statistical significant <br />differences were found between the studied addicted person's socio-demographic characteristics and <br />their relapse of addiction. Recommendations: This study recommended increasing the awareness <br />among addicted persons through effective educational programs, carrying out effective discharge <br />plans for addicted persons including follow- up visits schedule and healthy lifestyle guidelines. <br />Further nursing researches are required to assessthe addicted person's needs and health problems.<br />

Background: Oral health is crucial for general health, and a fundamental nursing <br />responsibility as it is a state of being free from mouth and oral infection, periodontal disease, tooth <br />decay, tooth loss, and other diseases that affect millions of children. Aim: This study aimed to assess <br />children's oral health care practices and their dental problems. Subjects and Methods: A <br />descriptive design was conducted at outpatient dental clinics at both Ain Shams and Tanta <br />University Hospitals. Tools of data collection involved I- a structured questionnaire to assess <br />school age children knowledge as regards oral health care and dental problems. II- Dental <br />Assessment Sheet to assess children's dental problems. III - Tooth brushing and flossing checklist <br />(reported practice) to assess children's oral health care practices. Results: The study findings <br />revealed that the majority (95%) of the studied children had decayed teeth. There was a highly <br />statistically significant difference between studied children's decayed teeth and their total oral health <br />care reported practices. Conclusion: The study concluded that the children's oral health care <br />practices are tooth brushing and flossing technique and the children's dental problems are dental <br />caries, dental injury and gingivitis and also concluded that there was appositive relation between <br />children's oral health care practices and their dental problems. Recommendations: Educating the <br />children proper tooth brushing with fluoride toothpaste, flossing technique through mass media and <br />limiting sugar-containing takeaway food and beverage consumption, to provide adequate nutrition <br />for children.

Background: Most patients in the critical care units cannot speak for themselves hence <br />cannot pinpoint when their condition. It is therefore important to assess the nurses’ performance <br />when managing clinical alarms. Aim of the study: The study was aiming to assess the nurses’ <br />performance regarding devices alarms in intensive care units. Study Design: A descriptive <br />exploratory design was followed to achieve the aim of this study. Setting: The study was conducted <br />at the open heart intensive care unit at Academy of Heart affiliated to Ain shams University <br />Hospitals. Sample: A Convenience sample of nurses (30) in ICU unit at Ain Shams University <br />Hospital. Tools of data collection: A structured self-Administered knowledge assessment <br />Questionnaire nurses, Observational check list and Nurses` attitude rating scale. Results: The <br />results of this study showed that more than three quarters of studied nurses had unsatisfactory <br />knowledge and majority of them had unsatisfactory practice and more than half of the study group <br />of nurses had positive attitude regarding management of devices alarms. Furthermore, there was a <br />highly statistical significant correlation between total studied nurses’ knowledge and total practice <br />and there was a highly statistical significant correlation between total studied nurses’ practice and <br />attitude. Conclusion: The current study concluded that, more than two third of the studied nurses <br />had unsatisfactory level of knowledge and practice. Recommendations: The study recommended <br />the importance of implementing an in service training program to improve nurses’ performance <br />regarding dealing with ICU devices alarms.

Aim: This study aim was to assess nursing performance to meet clients' satisfaction <br />regarding antenatal care. Design: descriptive research was utilized in this study. Setting: The <br />study was conducted at three MCH centers at Shoubra ELKhima district. Sample all nurses <br />in the previous MCH centers are 35 nurses and 150 pregnant women attending for maternal <br />health care. Tool: two tools were used for data collection the first one was a structured <br />interviewing questionnaire sheet included socio demographic data about nurses, nurses’ <br />knowledge regarding antenatal care, socio demographic data about pregnant women, <br />obstetric history, antenatal follow up and likert scale which monitor women satisfaction. The <br />second tool was an observational checklist to observe actual nursing performance in ante- <br />natal care clinic. Results: the majority of the nurses had poor knowledge regarding antenatal <br />care in MCH centers and had poor performance of antenatal care. The majority of the study <br />subjects were unsatisfied with the performance of the nurses in MCH centers. Conclusion: <br />quality of antenatal care provided at studied MCH centers was poor, due to shortage of <br />staff, lack of necessary equipment and supplies. Pregnant women were unsatisfied with <br />antenatal care provided in these centers. Recommendation: Continuous training Programs <br />for health care providers at MCH centers to improve their performance and consequently <br />raise the quality level.

Background:The knowledge of primipara mothers regarding breastfeeding was not <br />completely adequate and this was reflected on the practice.. Aim of The study: was assess <br />Primipara Mothers Performance about breastfeeding. Research Design: A descriptive design <br />was used. Settings: This study was conducted at the selected maternal and child health <br />center affiliated to the east and west medical sector of Cairo governorate namely El-waily <br />maternal and child health care center and medical center El mahkama. Subjects: A simple <br />random sample consisted of 50 were selected out of all primipara mothers those on <br />exclusive breast feed and their infant not reach 12 months.from the previously mentional <br />setting .Tools of data collection: An interviewing questionnaire sheet to assess mothers <br />knowledge and reported practices about breast feeding. Results: Revealed less than half of <br />the studied mothers had satisfactory level of reported practice about Breast Feeding as well <br />as the expression and storage of the breast milk. Conclusion: The primipara mothers had <br />deficit in repoted practices about breastfeeding. Recommendations: Design, implement and <br />evaluate an education program for the primipara, to cover the deficit in the practice the <br />Exclusive breastfeeding

Background: Head injury is a trauma to the head that may or may not include injury to the <br />brain. Traumatic head injury (THI) is the leading cause of death and disability in young adults in the <br />developed countries. The aim of this study: was to assess nurses’ Performance regarding caring of <br />Patient with traumatic head injury in Intensive care unit. Design: A descriptive exploratory study <br />Setting: the study was conducted in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Ain shams University Hospital. <br />Study Subjects: A convenience sample of nurses (No=40). Data collection tools: Nurses' Self- <br />administered questionnaire and Observational checklists of caring for traumatic head injury. Results: <br />Approximately seventy five percent of the studied nurses had unsatisfactory level about total <br />knowledge regarding caring of patient with traumatic head injury and eighty percent of the studied <br />nurses had satisfactory level regarding total practice about traumatic head injury, there was <br />statistically significant relation between total knowledge and total practice. Conclusion: Based on <br />the study findings, most of the studied nurses at intensive care unit had unsatisfactory level of <br />knowledge and satisfactory level about practice regarding caring for patients with traumatic head <br />injury in intensive care unit. Recommendation: Further studied was recommended to evaluate the <br />reflection of in-service training program regarding caring of patients with traumatic head injury in <br />intensive care units on nurses' performance and consequently on the patients' outcome.Orientation <br />and periodic in-service training program for nurses in intensive care units regarding caring for <br />patients with traumatic head injury for continuous updating their knowledge.

Background: Quality of life is an important indicator for the assessment of individual's <br />health, decision-making, and passing judgment on the overall community health. Infertility in <br />most societies across the world is considered as a stain and shame, which leads to the <br />infertile couples suffering. Aim: It was to assess the quality of life among infertile couples <br />through utilizing the quality of life's domains. Design: A descriptive exploratory design was <br />utilized. Subjects: A convenient sample was obtained; all infertile couples who attended and <br />accepted to participate in study at the previously mentioned setting. Setting: The study was <br />conducted at the outpatient infertility clinics, at the Maternity Hospital-Ain Shams University. <br />Data Collection: 1. Arabic Structured Interviewing Questionnaire, developed by the researcher. 2. <br />A Ferti QOL, is the 2nd tool and the 1st internationally validated self-report questionnaire, it is <br />adopted from Jat Ky Boivin, et .al (2002), and adapted by the researcher. Results: Findings <br />showed highly statistically significant relations between levels of education of the infertile <br />couples and all the QOL sub-domains. Also, there were statistical significant relations between <br />levels of OOL of the infertile couples and their type of infertility. Meanwhile, a confirmed <br />positive statistically significant correlation was between infertility and QOL of the study sample. <br />Conclusions: Although infertility affects all the QOL domains of infertile couples, but it has a <br />major impact on their psychological and emotional aspects. Recommendations: Develop <br />different health awareness programs for infertile couple in different health settings in order to <br />enhance their knowledge and QOL. Also, health awareness is needed for health professionals to <br />include the psychological symptoms assessment of the infertile patients to their plan for more <br />efficient interventions.

The aim of this study was to: Assess health needs among preschool children in rural <br />areas. Setting: Governmental Nursery School in Gharbiya Govemorate Tanta Basyoun <br />center, which about 38 Governmental Nursery School. Sample: A multi stage sampling will <br />be used in this study to get study participants and the final sample size was (200) participant. <br />Tools: First tool, Structured interviewing questionnaire by the investigator to assess socio- <br />demographic data, current health status for preschool child, mother’s knowledge regarding <br />health needs &problems of their preschool child, mother's practices. Second tool, <br />Observational checklist to assess growth and development through Anthropometric <br />measurements. Results: The mean age of the studied children was 4.2±0.81, more than half <br />of them were males. More than half of mothers were satisfactory in total knowledge. More <br />than half of preschool children didn't have health problems. More than half of mother's <br />reported practice was always in physical health needs, psychological, social, and cognitive <br />and security needs and the majority of studied children were normal in their total growth and <br />development. Conclusion: There was a highly statistically significant relation between <br />socio-demographic characteristics and mother's knowledge regarding health needs& <br />problems among their preschool children. Also, there was highly statistically significant <br />relation between total practice with age of mother, Mother education level and mother's job. <br />There was positive statistically significant correlation deference between total knowledge <br />and Total practice, negative statistically significant correlation deference between total <br />knowledge and Total health problems and negative statistically significant correlation <br />between Total practice and Total health problems. Recommendations: Counseling programs <br />for mothers to improve their knowledge and practice toward achievement of health needs for <br />their preschool children, Provide proper health education for mothers to improve their <br />practices toward resolving any problem may face their preschool children. Particular effort <br />should therefore be made to ensure this knowledge is rightly acquired. Other means of <br />knowledge acquisition for mothers who do not have a formal education or cannot complete <br />education above primary school should be employed. More importantly, programs should <br />identify which child care practices should be encouraged to enhance maternal and child <br />nutrition and health; promoting such could mitigate the negative association of mother’s lack <br />of education with children’s health. Finally, adult education through behavioral change <br />communications would be an effective means for reaching out to poor and less educated <br />Nigerian women. -Follow up frequently to early detection of health problems and unachieved <br />health needs of preschool children in all nursery school all over the government.

Aim: this study aimed to assess self-awareness among nursing students dealing with <br />psychiatric patients. Design: a descriptive exploratory design was utilized in this study. <br />Setting: This study was conducted at Abbassia psychiatric hospital which contains two <br />secondary nursing schools, one for males and another for female (both of them affiliated to <br />Abbassia psychiatric hospital). Sampling: A convenience sample of 100 students. Tools: <br />Interview questionnaire sheet used to assess student's socio-demographic characteristics, <br />Cooper- smith self-awareness scale used to assess self-awareness level and Rosenberg self- <br />esteem scale to assess nursing student's self-esteem level. Results: It illustrated that more <br />than half of the study sample had a low level of self-awareness. Close to half of the students <br />had low and medium level of self-esteem respectively; there was highly significant <br />correlation between students’ self- awareness and their self-esteem. Conclusion: according <br />to this study the majority of students had low self-awareness and more than two thirds of <br />students had low and medium self-esteem respectively. Recommendations: There must be <br />training courses for nursing students who deal with psychiatric patients to develop their self- <br />awareness and how to use self as a therapeutic method in their relationship with patients.

Background: Cancer is a name given to large group of disease characterized by un- <br />controlled and un-regulated growth of cells. Aim: The study aimed to asses parental caring for <br />children with cancer on their quality of life. Design: A descriptive design was used. Setting: This <br />study was conducted at both the Out-Patient clinic and In-Patient pediatric departments at National <br />Cancer Institute, affiliated to Cairo University. Subject: A purposive sample including 150 children <br />with inclusion criteria were suffering from cancer, both gender, aged from one year to less than or <br />equal age 18 years, start session of chemptherapy, radiotherapy Tools: two tools used: I) A <br />structured interviewing questionnaire sheet: to assess parent's knowledge and practices regarding to <br />their children with cancer and II) quality of life scale to assess children health with cancer related <br />quality of life. Results: revealed that, more than half of parents had poor knowledge about cancer <br />disease; there was statistically highly significant relation between parents' total knowledge regarding <br />cacer disease and level of quality of life in their children Conclusion: the study concluded that, <br />parents needs for the guideline to support theme in care for children having cancer on their quality <br />of life. Recommendations: the study recommended that: implementation educational programs for <br />parents having children with cancer to keep them update with knowledge and practices for care of <br />their children of parents having children with cancer.

Background: Palliative care meets the needs of all patients requiring relief from <br />symptoms, the needs of patients and their families for psychological and supportive care. AIM of <br />the study: to assess nurses level of knowledge and practice regarding palliative care and sensitive <br />outcomes regarding palliative care for patients with cancer. Design: Exploratory design was <br />utilized. Setting: this study was carried out in Oncology unit of El Demerdash hospital. Subjects: <br />convenient sample of all available nurses n=40 and purposive sample n=30were included in the <br />study. Data collection: Data were obtained through demographic data tool, nurses knowledge <br />questionnaire, nurses observational checklist, questionnaire to assess sensitive out comes to <br />patient with cancer regarding palliative care. Results: It was revealed that 60 % and 62.5% of the <br />nurses had satisfactory level of knowledge and practice respectively. Also, 86.7% and 85% of the <br />patients receiving palliative care, their sensitive physical and psychological side effects <br />respectively disappeared. Conclusion: It was concluded that the majority of nurses had <br />satisfactory level of knowledge and practice regarding palliative care. This finding had significant <br />relation with nurses' level of education, continuous training courses and years of experience. <br />Palliative care had positive effect on patients physical and psychological sensitive side effects. <br />Recommendations; Designing in-service training and educational program to improve nurses <br />knowledge and practice about policy of follow palliative care as routine of care to improve quality <br />of patients life.

Background: The effects of a birth experience can be positive and empowering, or negative and <br />traumatizing. Nurses, midwives and obstetricians require a deep understanding of the emotional aspects <br />of childbirth in order to meet the emotional and psychosocial needs of laboring women. Aim of the <br />Study: The study aimed to assess the women's expectations and experiences during childbirth. Research <br />Design: a descriptive design utilized in carrying out this study. Setting: The study conducted at the <br />antenatal clinic and at postnatal room, Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital. Sample: Convenient <br />sample, sample was 500 pregnant women. Tools: (I) A structured interview questionnaire sheet assess <br />socio-demographic characteristics of the study sample include age, education level, occupation, place of <br />residence, and phone number. Moreover, to asses obstetric history of study sample includes previous <br />pregnancy and delivery, parity, previous pregnancy outcome, type of delivery, number of abortions, and <br />place of the previous delivery. It has involved information about present pregnancy as gestational age; <br />any complications with a previous pregnancy, antenatal follow up, (II) the expectations of childbirth <br />experience questionnaire, (III) the expectations of nursing support during labor and birth and (IV) <br />childbirth experience questionnaire. Results: 62.6% of the studied sample was had negative <br />expectations toward childbirth. 58.3% of the studied sample was had negative expectations toward <br />nursing support.62.6% of the studied sample was had negative experiences toward childbirth. <br />Conclusion: It was found that, slightly two thirds of the studied sample were had negative expectations <br />toward childbirth. More than half of the studied sample were had negative expectations toward nursing <br />support. In addition to the slightly two-thirds of the studied sample were had negative experiences toward <br />childbirth. Also, there was highly significant correlation between total childbirth expectations score, total <br />nurse expectations score of studied sample & their total childbirth experiences. Recommendation: The <br />study recommended with conducting an educational programs to expectant mothers about what actually <br />happens during labor.

Background: Diarrheal diseases are major public health problems, especially in <br />children in developing countries. Globally, diarrhea remains the second most common cause <br />of death among children under five years of age. Aim: This study aimed to assess needs of <br />children having diarrheal diseases. Research Design: A descriptive designed was utilized in <br />this study. Research settings: This study was conducted at Pediatric Department affiliated to <br />Beni Suef University Hospital and General Beni Suef Hospital. Research subjects: A <br />purposive sample included (45) children admitted to the pediatric department who having <br />diarrheal disease was selected from previous mentioned settings. Tools of data collection: A <br />Pre-designed Questionnaire Sheet; Medical data sheet; Patient assessment data sheet; <br />Complication monitor sheet. Results: of the study revealed that regarding to demographic <br />characteristics of children more than half of children were males, lived in urban and having <br />natural feeding. There were half of them readmission after one week and two thirds have <br />feverish. Conclusion: Children having diarrheal disease needs accurate management and <br />nutrition. Recommendation: Periodical in-service training programs for nurses to improve <br />their quality of care (QOC) to meet needs of children having diarrheal disease.

Background: Primary prevention of viral hepatitis B & C is a vital element in <br />controlling the spread of the disease between nursing staff. The aim of the study was to <br />assess nurses' knowledge about viral hepatitis B and C, assess nurses' preventive practices <br />about viral hepatitis B and C, The research design: A descriptive study was utilized for <br />current study. Setting The study was conducted in two setting, National Liver Institute and <br />Menofia University Hospital in Shebin El-Kom City. Sample convenient sample consist of <br />117 nurses were recruited for the study. Tools: Data were collected through self adminstered <br />questionnaire sheet to assess socio-demographic characteristics data about nurses, assessing <br />the nurses knowledge about HBV &HCV, Observational checklist used to assess nurses' <br />practices and infection control in hospitals. Results: The majority of studied nurses were <br />knowledgeable about viral hepatitis B&C and preventive measures of viral hepatitis B&C, <br />the majority of studied nurses had unaccepted practices. The study also revealed a statistical <br />significant relation between nurses' knowledge, practices and their years of work. <br />Conclusion: This study concluded that, the nurses had adequate knowledge about viral <br />hepatitis B& C except incubation period. The level of the nurses' practices regarding <br />preventive measures of viral hepatitis B&C not accepted. The hospital had an important role <br />to prevent transmission of viral hepatitis B&C to nursing staff through availability of <br />hepatitis B vaccination infection control devices, equipment and solutions. Recommenations: <br />The study recommended a periodic training program for nurses about viral hepatitis B& C. <br />Further researches about nurses' compliance to infection control practices. Booklet and <br />simplified teaching material should be available for nurses about infection control practices <br />and safety measures.

Background: The patient safety is a fundamental principle of health care. It has been defifined <br />as reduction of risk of unnecessary harm associated with delivery of health care to a minimum as well <br />as the prevention of errors and avoidable adverse events, to protect patients from injury. Aim: This <br />study was conducted to assess nurses' performance regarding patient safety in operating room. <br />Design: A descriptive research design was utilized to meet the aim of the study. Setting: The study <br />was carried out in the General operating rooms at Zagazig University hospitals. Study subject: A <br />Purposive sample included all available nurses working in general operating room, (50 nurses)at <br />zagazig university hospital and agree to participate were recruited in this study. Tools: three tools <br />were used including:-I-Self-administered questionnaire. II- Nurses’ level of practice observational <br />checklist. III- Nurses’ attitude Likert scale. Results: 74% of studied nurses under the study had <br />unsatisfactory level of knowledge regarding patient safety in operating room, 54% of studied nurses <br />had unsatisfactory level of practice regarding patient safety in operating room and 96% of studied <br />nurses had positive attitude regarding patient safety in operating room. Conclusion: about three <br />quarters of studied nurses had unsatisfactory level of knowledge regarding patient safety in operating <br />room. More than half of studied nurses had unsatisfactory level of practice regarding patient safety in <br />operating room. While, the most of studied nurses had a positive attitude regarding patient safety in <br />operating room. Recommendations: On-going and regular in-service educational programs <br />regarding evidence-based guidelines about application of patient safety checklist in the operating <br />room.

Background: Burns are the second most common injury for adolescents in families <br />of low socioeconomic status moreover burns and related injuries are still the major cause of <br />mortality and disability around the world. Aim: This study aimed to assess the effect of <br />secondary level of burn injuries on body image and self–esteem of adolescents. Design: A <br />descriptive analytical design was used. Setting: This study conducted at the Burn Unit for <br />both of El–Demerdash Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University and Al–Ahrar Zagazig <br />General Hospital affiliated to Ministry of Health. Subject: A purposive sample composed <br />of 120 adolescents who were suffering from second degree of burn and admitted to the <br />previously mentioned setting. Tools: Three tools used for data collection; A Structured <br />Interview Questionnaire Format to assess characteristics of adolescents and history of burn, <br />Body Image Scale to assess body image of the studied adolescents and Coopersmith Self– <br />Esteem Inventory Scale to assess self–esteem of the studied adolescent. Results: the results <br />of the study illustrated that there was a positive correlation between total body image of the <br />studied adolescents and their total self–esteem and a negative correlation between total burn <br />ratio and total body image and total self–esteem. Conclusion: Based on the findings of the <br />current study, the study was concluded that, more than two thirds of the studied adolescent <br />with secondary burn had moderate body image and the majority of them had moderate self– <br />esteem. Recommendations: Develop a program to empower adolescents’ for overcoming <br />the effect of secondary level of burn injuries on body image and self–esteem.

Background: Screening tests early in your pregnancy you should be offered a number of <br />tests, to help antenatal care team to provide the best care possible during pregnancy and the birth. <br />Aim: This study is to assess the main factors affecting on utilization of screening procedures among <br />pregnant women. Methods: A descriptive research design was adopted to fulfill the aim of the study <br />and answer the research question. Setting: The study was conducted at Obstetric outpatient <br />antenatal clinics of Beni-suef University Hospital and Beni-suef General hospital. Sample type: <br />Simple random sample technique was used. Sample criteria: A sample of pregnant women was <br />recruited from the eligible group. The sample included every pregnant women who was attending <br />the antenatal clinics 3 days per week and fulfilling the inclusion criteria as different age group, <br />different educational level, free from medical &surgical problem and agree to participation in the <br />study until reaching sample size. Results: Regarding relation between characteristics of studied <br />sample and their score of factors, the study revealed that were a highly significant association between <br />educational level of women and occupation for husband with total score of factors (p. value <0.05). <br />Conclusion: The present study, revealed that most of studied pregnant women had factors affecting <br />utilization of screening procedures as social, economic, psychological, environmental factors. In <br />addition, there is significant association between personal characteristic of pregnant women and <br />their total score of factors that effect on utilization of screening procedures. Recommendation: <br />Nurses should have more positive role in raising the awareness of women about the importance of <br />screening procedures through developing mother's class programs at maternity hospitals and <br />preparation of health education materials for pregnant women.

Factors Affecting Prediction of Pressure Ulcer among Patients at Critical Care Unit: Suggested Nursing Care Plan

Background: Pressure ulcer (PU) commonly called Pressure injury (PI), pressure sores (PS), <br />decubitus ulcers (DU) or bedsores (BS), are localized injury occur most often in the skin and <br />subcutaneous tissue over bony prominences. Aim: This study aimed to assess factors affecting <br />prediction of pressure ulcer among patients at critical care unites. Design A descriptive exploratory <br />design was utilized for the conduction of this study. Setting the study was carried out in critical <br />care unit (ICU) of Sohag University Hospital. Study subject: A purposefulsample of seventy patients. <br />Tools: I – patient assessment form which includes patients demographic characteristics' and patients’ <br />clinical data, II- Braden scale to detect high risk patient for pressure ulcer, III-factors affecting <br />prediction of pressure ulcer tool. Results: revealed that, many factors affecting prediction of pressure <br />ulcers, such as patient’s related factors, 55.7% of the studied patients were bed ridden, 87.1% of <br />them were incontinence of stool, 72.9% having a low level of consciousness, 74.3% of the studied <br />patients exposed to shear and friction on the skin, 64.3% were diabetic, and 55.7% were suffered <br />from vascular disease. Almost all of the nurses’ practices regarding pressure ulcer prevention were <br />poor, and according to Braden scale assessment 55.7% of patients admitted to ICU were at high <br />risk for pressure ulcer. Conclusion: more than half of patients admitted to ICU had sever risk for <br />pressure ulcer according to Braden scale, more than half of patients were bed ridden, most of them <br />were incontinence of stool, three quarter of patients having a low level of consciousness and were <br />exposed to shear and friction on the skin, nearly two third of patients were diabetic and more than <br />half of them were suffered from vascular disease. All of nurses’ practices regarding pressure ulcer <br />prevention were poor, and most of patients did not have environmental factors to prevent pressure ulcer. <br />Recommendations: Application of Braden scale tool to assess all admitted patientsto intensive care units. <br />Braden scale should become as daily nursing assessment task.

<strong>Background</strong>: This study aimed to assesses critical thinking skills among psychiatric mental health nursing students. Study design was a descriptive research design. The study was conducted on 90 psychiatric mental health students at Faculty of nursing, affiliated to Ain Shams University. The type of sample was convenient sample. Data were collected using The California Critical Thinking Dispositions Inventory questionnaire (CCTDI) it divided into two parts (1) socio-demographic characteristics sheet (2) critical thinking assessment sheet. The results: this study revealed that the majority of sub-scales of CCTDI students showed a negative disposition toward critical thinking. No statistical significant difference was found in relation of critical thinking disposition and age and residence. The study concluded that,<strong> </strong>the majority of psychiatric mental health’s nursing students have the highest mean percentage about skills of critical thinking in “truth seeking followed by open mindedness and inquisitiveness meanwhile, the lowest mean percentage of dispositional level characteristics of “self-confidence” among psychiatric mental health students. The most of psychiatric mental health nursing students have negative disposition toward clinical thinking. The study recommended that,<strong> </strong>Nursing educational program for enhancing critical thinking skills and how to apply, the students must play an active role in designing this program. Short courses workshops are recommended to develop critical thinking skills. Revising the curriculum and preparing nurse educators for implementation of innovative and active teaching strategies are suggested.

This study aimed to assess maternal practices for prevention and care of communicable <br />diseases for their children. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted at fever <br />hospital in Abbasia and Alfayoum city and nursery school. Sampling: A convenience sample <br />include their total number was 130 mothers. Tools: A structured questionnaire format to assess <br />mothers characteristic and their knowledge regarding communicable diseases, the second tool was <br />reported practice to assess mothers practice toward communicable diseases. Results: showed that <br />two fifth of (preventive) healthy children mothers aged forty years and more. Also the majority of <br />(curative) diseased children mothers had unsatisfactory knowledge related to specific communicable <br />diseases. Majority of healthy children and diseased children mothers had inadequate reported <br />practices. Conclusion: More than half of (preventive) healthy children mothers had unsatisfactory <br />knowledge and the majority of them had inadequate reported practices related to communicable <br />diseases. Meanwhile, less than two thirds of diseased children mothers had unsatisfactory <br />knowledge related to general knowledge while majority of them had unsatisfactory specific <br />knowledge. In addition to the majority of diseased children mothers had inadequate reported <br />practices related to communicable diseases Recommendations: The study recommended that, <br />Implementation of health education program for mothers about the preventive measures and care of <br />children having communicable diseases in MCH and outpatient clinic as needed.

Background: Esophageal varices are enlarged or swollen veins that occur on the lining of <br />the esophagus. Varices can be life-threatening if they break open and bleed. Aim: This study was <br />conducted to assess nurses' performance (knowledge, practice and attitude) while caring of patients <br />with bleeding esophageal varices. Design: An exploratory descriptive design was utilized to achieve <br />the aim of the study. Setting: The study was conducted at medical ICU and hematemsis unit at <br />Zagazig University Hospitals. Study subject: A convenient sample of (30) nurses working in the <br />previously mentioned units within 6 months. Tools: three tools were used including: I- Nurses' self- <br />administered questionnaire used to assess nurses’ knowledge and demographic characteristics of the <br />study nurses. II- Likert scale used to assess nurses’ attitude in caring of patients with bleeding <br />esophageal varices. III- Nurses' observational checklist used to assess nurses’ practice in caring of <br />patients with bleeding esophageal varices. Results: 65.7% and 53.33% of nurses had unsatisfactory <br />level of knowledge and practice, while 60% of them had a positive attitude regarding caring of <br />patients with bleeding esophageal varices. Conclusion: there was a highly statistically significant <br />relation between total nurses’ knowledge and practice. Recommendations: Further research are <br />recommended to study new approaches in the area of care and management of patients with bleeding <br />esophageal varices and evaluate its reflection on patient’s outcomes.

Background: work engagement is a positive state of mind characterized by the extent to <br />which employees are vigorous. Spirituality is a sense of wholeness, connectedness at work, and <br />deeper values. Aim: The current study aimed at comparing between faculty staff members and their <br />assistants regarding workplace spirituality and work engagement. Subject and Methods: A <br />descriptive comparative research design. This study was conducted at faculty of nursing Ain Shams <br />University. (124) faculty staff members and (79) faculty staff members’ assistants were included in <br />the study. Data were collected using two tools; workplace spirituality questionnaire to assess faculty <br />staff members and their assistants’ perception toward workplace spirituality and work engagement <br />scale to assess faculty staff members and their assistants’ perception toward work engagement. <br />Results: There are a statistically significant difference between demographic variables of faculty <br />staff members and workplace spirituality regarding position and specialty P<0.05, there is no <br />statistically significant correlation between workplace spirituality and demographic of faculty staff <br />assistants P>0.05, there is highly statistically significant direct positive relation between all <br />dimensions of workplace spirituality and all dimensions of work engagement. Conclusion: The <br />current study concluded that there is no significant difference among the perception of the faculty <br />staff members and their assistants regarding workplace spirituality, while there is a significant <br />difference between the perception of the faculty staff and faculty staff assistants regarding work <br />engagement. Recommendations: The study recommends encourage high spirituality of all faculty <br />staff and workers, reward high engaged staff and gives more appreciation, enhance sense of <br />community for all staff and workers, and disseminate organizational values all over the faculty to <br />get more cooperation

Aim: This study was aimed to investigate the efficacy of health promotion program <br />on improving physical activity among post - menopausal women with osteoporosis. <br />Research design: quasi-experimental intervention study design was used. Setting: this study <br />conducted at women’s health center in Nasser institute hospital in Egypt. Subjects: simple <br />random sampling technique was used to recruit 100 post- menopausal women diagnosed <br />with osteoporosis in the study. Tools of data collection: three tools were used for data <br />collection; an interviewing questionnaire sheet, Osteoporosis Knowledge Test, and global <br />physical activity questionnaire. Results: There is no statistical significant difference between <br />post-menopausal women in both groups regarding their socio-demographic characteristics. <br />There was a statistical significant improvement on total level of knowledge and physical <br />activity regarding osteoporosis after intervention and at follow up (p= 0.001). Conclusion: <br />The findings of the current study supported the hypothesis of this study which stated that <br />application of health promotion program had positive effect on improving physical activity <br />among post-menopausal women with osteoporosis. Recommendation: based on the finding <br />of the current study the following recommendation is suggested application of physical <br />activity program for post-menopausal women with osteoporosis to prevent osteoporosis <br />complication.

Background: Female circumcision is any procedure involving the partial or total removal of <br />the external female genitalia. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess mother's perception toward <br />hazards of female circumcision in rural community. Design: descriptive research design was used to <br />conduct this study. Setting: the study was conducted at MCH centers in Beni- suef city. Sample: A <br />purposive sample of three hundred mother having female daughters at the age of 7 to 15 years who <br />have done circumcision or not was selected. Tools: two tools were used for data collection, first <br />tools divided into three parts, structured interviewing questionnaire to assess socio- demographic <br />data of mothers, knowledge of mothers regarding female circumcision and its hazards, part three to <br />assess predisposing factors leading to female circumcision, and the reported practices of mothers <br />regarding hazards after circumcision, second tool to assess attitude of mothers toward hazards of <br />female circumcision in rural community. Results: the mean age of mothers was 34.3 ±4.1 years, <br />nearly half of mothers had satisfactory level of knowledge regarding female circumcision, more <br />than two fifths of them done practices regarding hazards after circumcision and nearly three fifth of <br />them had positive attitude regarding female circumcision. Conclusion: there is significance <br />relationship between studied mothers knowledge, practice and attitude with their socio- <br />demographic characteristics and there is significance correlation between knowledge of the studied <br />mothers and their attitude regarding female circumcision. Recommendation: Increase mothers <br />awareness about female circumcision through outpatient clinics and MCH centers.

Background: The term “neurologic disorder” applies to any condition that is caused by a <br />dysfunction in part of the brain or nervous system, resulting in physical and/or psychological <br />symptoms. Aim: This study aimed to assess nurses’ performance regarding care of children with <br />neurological disorders. Research design: A descriptive research design was used in this study. <br />Setting: The study was conducted at Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit and Neurosurgery Department <br />in El-Demerdash hospital which affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. Research Subject: A <br />convenient sample of all (50) nurses. Tools of data collection: Two tools were used Included I. <br />Interviewing questionnaire to assess nurses' knowledge regarding to care of children <br />with <br />neurological disorders II. The observational checklist to assess nurses 'practice regarding care of <br />children with neurological disorders. Results: less than two thirds of the studied nurses (62%) had <br />unsatisfactory knowledge , additional to 58% of them were having incompetent practice regarding <br />care of children with neurological disorders. Conclusion: The current study concluded that, there <br />were statistical significant relation between total nurses’ knowledge, their total practice and their <br />demographic characteristics as regards: age, position and experience. With a strong positive <br />correlation between nurses level of knowledge and their level of practice. Recommendation: The <br />study recommended that importance of implementing an educational training program for nurses <br />in neurosurgery intensive care units and neurosurgery department regarding neurological disorders.

Background: Adolescents are in a vulnerable age, they may be prone to high Internet <br />use and its negative effects on their health. So controlling the pattern of internet usage is very <br />important. Aim: The study aimed to evaluate the effect of high internet use on health of <br />adolescents. Study design: A descriptive design was used in this study. Subject: Multistage <br />sample composed of 800 adolescent students. Setting: This study was carried out at El kobba, <br />saraya El kobba, Ensaf serry, talaee Gaber, Amon secondary schools, at Elzayton <br />administrator. Tools: It composed of two tools. The first tool is self-administered <br />questionnaire to assess socio-demographic characteristics, pattern of internet use, social and <br />psychological health condition of adolescents using internet. The second one is physical <br />assessment sheet is also used to assess physical status of them. Results: The results of this <br />study clarified that 33% of study sample their ages were 17 years or more, 69.5% of them are <br />male, 84.6% of them, their pattern of internet use were moderate pattern and 15.4% of them <br />were high pattern, 17% of the study sample with high pattern of internet use had high <br />negative physical health effect, 65.5% of them had high negative social health effect, while <br />49.1% had high negative psychological health effect. Conclusion: There were a significant <br />statistical relation between the pattern of internet use and the physical, social, psychological, <br />health status of adolescent, and there were also a statistical significant relation between the <br />pattern of internet use and scholastic achievement of adolescent. Recommendations: The <br />study recommended that, continuous assessment for adolescent s health status at school and <br />at their homes is essential, conducting educational programs for students, parents about <br />proper use of internet, limiting hours spent on the internet, proper body mechanics during <br />internet usage, design pamphlets about the health hazards of high internet usage for <br />secondary schools students and design short programs in the mass media to increase <br />awareness of adolescents and their parents about hazards of high internet usage.

Background: Emotional intelligence is an essential factor that responsible for shaping interaction <br />between nurses and job stress Aim: this study aimed to assess relationship between emotional intelligence <br />and job stress among nurses in Abbassia mental hospital. Design: A descriptive correlational design was <br />utilized in this study. Setting: The study was carried out at inpatients departments of El-abbassia Mental <br />Hospital located in Cairo Subjects: The study was conducted on 220 of nurses working in El-Abbassia <br />mental hospital Tools of data collection Socio-demographic Sheet, Emotional intelligence scale and <br />psychiatric Nurses Job Stress Scale. Results: The highest percentage of the studied sample were able to <br />appraisal and regulation of own emotion, and three quarter of them had high level of emotional <br />intelligence with significant difference between level of emotional intelligence and their gender, income, <br />professional experience and qualification Regarding to job stress the highest percentage of nurses had <br />ability to provide psychiatric nursing care toward psychiatric patient and the most of them suffering from <br />moderate level of job stress with significant difference between level of job stress and their sex, <br />experience and qualification Conclusion: The result of the current study concluded that there was a <br />negative relationship between emotional intelligence and job stress Recommendations: Establish a <br />psycho-educational program for psychiatric nurses to learn them how to cope positively with their job <br />stressors and conduct intervention program concerning emotional intelligence among newly graduated <br />nurses in order to managing their stress and improving job performance.

Background: Documentation is a fundamental nursing responsibility with professional, legal and <br />financial ramification. Aim: This study aimed to assess the nurses' documentation skills in neonatal intensive <br />care unit through assessing nurses’ knowledge and practices toward the documentation and assessing nurses’ <br />attitude toward documentation in neonatal intensive care units. Research design: descriptive study. Setting: <br />The study was conducted at Neonatal Intensive Care Units at Maternity and Gynecological Hospital and <br />Pediatric Hospital affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals and Said Galal Hospital affiliated to Al-Azhar <br />University hospitals. Subjects: A purposive sample the subject of the study included of nurses (60) and <br />purposive sample of neonates (60) who admitted in NICU in the previously mentioned settings. Tools: four <br />tools were used: First tool, Structured questionnaire format: to assess nurses’ knowledge as regard to <br />documentation skills. Second tool, neonates' assessment sheet. Third tool, Standardized frame for <br />documentation skills for common neonatal problems. Fourth tools, nurses' attitude regarding documentation <br />skills in NICU. Results: The mean age of the studied nurses was 26.5±5.91 years. Regarding educational <br />qualification, 53.3% of studied nurses had nursing technical institute education. In relation to mean years of <br />experience in neonatal intensive care, the mean was 6.62±2.87 years. Three quarters of nurses had no <br />attendance of previous training courses in nursing documentation. There is a statistically significant relation <br />between total knowledge of the studied nurses and their socio-demographic characteristics (age, educational <br />qualification and years of experience in NICUs). There is a statistically significant relation between total <br />practice of the studied nurses and their socio-demographic characteristics (age, educational qualification and <br />years of experience in NICUs). There is a statistically significant relation between total attitude of the studied <br />nurses and their educational qualification. Conclusion: More than half of nurses had satisfactory knowledge <br />regarding documentation skills in NICUs. The majority of nurses had positive attitude regarding documentation <br />skills in NICUs. More than half of nurses had competent practices regarding documentation skills in NICUs. <br />There is a highly statistically significant positive correlation between total nurses' knowledge, attitude and <br />practice. Recommendations: In-service education for upgrading nurses’ skills toward documentation in <br />neonate intensive care units. Further research studies are needed for ongoing assessment of nurses including <br />large sample for generalization of results.

Background: Chronic kidney disease is a reduced glomerular filtration rate and it an <br />important cause of death and loss of disability-adjusted life-years worldwide. Aim: was to <br />assess the quality of life for adult clients’ with chronic kidney disease. Design: A descriptive <br />study design was utilized in the current study. Sample: A Purposive sample with 122 adult <br />Client with chronic kidney disease with the following criteria: adult male and female, age <br />ranged from 21-50 years. Setting: the study was conducted in renal insufficiency outpatient <br />clinics at Ain Shams University Hospitals, Cairo governorate. Tools: first: An interviewing <br />questionnaire sheet (knowledge & compliance), and second: Kidney disease Quality of Life. <br />Results: The mean age of the study sample were 23.4 ± 15.2 years. More than one third <br />(36.1% & 35.0% respectively) of the client with chronic kidney disease had satisfactory <br />knowledge and compliance level about their disease, and more than half (52.5%) of them had <br />poor Quality of Life level. There was no statistical significance relation between client <br />quality of life and their knowledge but there were statistical significance relation between <br />client quality of life and their compliance. Conclusion: More than one third of the client with <br />chronic kidney disease had satisfactory knowledge and compliance level about their disease, <br />more than half of them had poor QoL level, and more than one third of them had average <br />QoL. There were a relation between client knowledge and their compliance and between <br />their quality of life and their compliance. Recommendation: Patients should to be provided <br />with sufficient relevant written and visual knowledge to facilitate educating them about <br />kidney disease, importance of hemodialysis, care of fistula, therapeutic regimen, and follow- <br />up < /span>.

This study aimed to: Effect of Guidelines Instructions on Nurses Regarding Caring of <br />Children suffering from Favism. Subjects and Methods: a quasi-experimental study was <br />conducted at hematological units in children hospital affiliated to both Ain Shams and Tanta <br />University hospitals. Subjects: A convenience sample include total number of 50 nurses. <br />Tools: A structured questionnaire to assess nurses characteristic and their knowledge <br />regarding favism, . II- observational checklist to assess nurses practices regarding care of <br />children with favism and A guiding Booklet about favism. Results: : nearly half (48%) of <br />studied nurses their age were 20>30 years and more than two fifth of them (44%) held >5 <br />years of experience in hematological units, There was statistically significant difference <br />between Pre / Post guidelines regarding nurses' total level of knowledge and their total level <br />of practices as regards care for children with favism . Conclusion: The designed guidelines <br />instructions led to significant improvement of knowledge and performance of the studied <br />nurses toward care of children with favism. Recommendations: The study recommended <br />that, periodic refreshing training should be provided for all nurses working in hematological <br />department and caring of children with favism. A manual guided booklet about favism <br />should be available for all nurses working in hematological unit.

<strong>Background: </strong>Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have problems in the social
interaction, communication skills, repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behaviors, and interests of
activities across multiple contexts<strong>. Aim: </strong>this study aimed to assess the effect of selected play
activities along with music therapy on social and stereotype behaviors among school age children
with autism. <strong>Design</strong>: one group pre and post quasi-experimental design was used in this study.
<strong>Sample</strong>: A purposive sample of thirty school age children diagnosed with autism. <strong>Setting</strong>: this
study was conducted at Center for Social and Preventive Medicine (Child Psychiatry Outpatient
Clinic) Cairo University Hospital. <strong>Data collection Tools:</strong> data were collected using three tools:
Socio-demographic and Medical Data Sheet, Autism Social Skills Profile (ASSP), Stereotyped
Behavior Scale (SBS). <strong>Results</strong>: more than half of the studied sample (56.7%) suffers from low level
of social skills interaction pre-intervention as compared to 3.3% post intervention, statistically
significant difference were found between social skills and stereotype behaviors pre and post
intervention. The study recommended that, music and play therapy should be integrated in treatment
programs for those children.

<strong>Background</strong>: In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a type of assisted reproductive technology used
for infertility treatment couples undergoing (IVF) suffer from various problems that affect their life.
<strong>Aim</strong>: This study aimed to assess infertile couples' knowledge regarding In Vitro Fertilization
Process. <strong>Research design: </strong>A descriptive research design was utilized. <strong>Setting: </strong>This study
conducted at Assisted Reproductive Unit at Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital. <strong>Sample: </strong>A
simple random sample was used to recruit 98 couples. <strong>Tool of data collection</strong>: An interviewing
questionnaire sheet was used for data collection. <strong>Results</strong>: shows that mean age of the studied
husbands is (35.97 ± 5.47) years while, the mean age of the studied wives is (29.72 ± 4.14) years.
As regard infertile couples total level of knowledge regarding IVF process only (12.8571 ±
2.55767)of the wives have satisfactory level of total knowledge regarding IVF process while,
(6.0408 ± 1.45715) of husbands have satisfactory level of total knowledge regarding IVF process.
<strong>Conclusion</strong>: The finding of the current study indicated that less than two third of infertile couples
have unsatisfactory level of knowledge regarding IVF process. Furthermore, nearly three quarters of
wives have unsatisfactory knowledge regarding factors that increase the chances of IVF success,
required medications, instructions followed after the procedure, and complications of IVF process.
While, nearly three quarters of husbands have unsatisfactory knowledge regarding instructions
followed before and during the procedure. <strong>Recommendation: </strong>Based on the finding of the current
study the following recommendation is suggested developing educational programs regarding IVF
process for infertile couples on IVF unit of Ain shams maternity university hospital.

<strong>Background: </strong>A pacemaker can relieve some arrhythmia symptoms, such as fatigue and
fainting. A pacemaker also can help a child who has abnormal heart rhythms resume a more active
life style. <strong>Aim: </strong>is to assess mothers needs regarding their children with cardiac pacemaker
implantation. <strong>Research design. </strong>descriptive design will be utilized in this study. <strong>Setting. </strong>the study
conducted in cardiac department in Ain shams university hospital and national heart institution in
Giza governorate. <strong>Sample. </strong>it include 50 mothers in the previously mentioned settings. <strong>Tools ; </strong>used
for data collection include an interview questions to assessing socio-demographic characteristics
of mothers and their children, mothers knowledge regarding pacemaker and activities of daily
living, and interview questionnaire to assessing anxiety scale, stressors and copying style among
mothers involved in the study. <strong>Results: </strong>the study finding showed that the majority of the mothers
had correct satisfactory knowledge regarding pacemaker. As regard aspect of anxiety level with
permanent pacemaker have mild anxiety and half of mothers have high level of stressors regarding
pacemaker implantation. <strong>Conclusion: </strong>concerning mothers knowledge regarding pacemaker the
result of the current study indicated that nearly three quarters of the mothers had satisfactory
knowledge regarding pacemaker and as regards total level of stressors found, also half of the
mothers have high level of stressors while, more than half of mothers cannot use a copying styles
regarding pacemaker with a statistical significant relation between mothers aged and total
knowledge, also there are high statistical significant deference between mothers anxiety and their
age, and marital status. <strong>Recommendation; </strong>design and implement health education program based
on mothers identified needs to enhance their awareness regarding to pacemaker, inflammation signs,
time of battery off, precautions after insertion and children nutritional needs to enhance their
quality of life.
