Background: Menopause is the time in a woman’s life when regular menstrual periods
cease, due to a natural change in sex hormones, which may be accompanied by unwelcome
symptoms. This study set out to identify the socio-demographic and anthropometric profile and
correlate them with the severity of menopausal symptoms and quality of life in postmenopausal
women. Aim of the study: To investigate the impact of menopausal symptoms on the quality of
life of postmenopausal women. Design: a descriptive design was used in this study Methods: A
convenient sample of 100 women residing Shobra Elkima. Kalubia Governorate. Tools: Data
were collected by three tools interview questionnaire, green scale of climacteric complaints and
quality of life scale. Results: 83.2% of the study subjects ages ranged between 60-60years.
22.8% and 70.3% of the study subjects reported mild and moderate degree of PMS. More than
half of the study subjects reported poor level of QoL regarding health, emotional and sexual. A
statistically significant difference observed between severity of PMS, sociodemographic and
BMI and QoL. Conclusions: Based on the results of the present study, menopause, aging,
severity of post-menopausal symptoms and BMI had significant association with the QoL of
postmenopausal women. Recommendation : It is necessary to plan for health education program
of these women to enhance their understanding of the changes of menopause and the strategies to
improve their QoL.
