Addict Person’s Coping Patterns after Recovery

Abstract

Background: coping pattern could be beneficial in recovery for addicted person with using the healthy coping pattern to recover from addiction. Aim of the Study: to assess addict person’s coping pattern after recovery. Research Design: A descriptive analytical design was utilized. Setting: This study was conducted at Al-Abbasia Psychiatric Hospital Subjects: A purposive sample of recovered addict persons (94) attending to previous mentioned setting Tools: Interviewing questionnaire which composed of addict person’s demographic data, Addict Person Health Problems Questionnaire. Addicted person’s coping pattern scale Results: The present study revealed that 44.7% of the studied addicted person had 30-<40 year old, study showed that 81.9%, of the studied addicted persons didn’t achieve their “physical needs ", 45.7% of them had sometimes not achieved “psychological and social needs” respectively, and study illustrated that 94.7% of them had psychological and social problems, 95.7% of them had social problems and 86.2% of them had physical health problems. Also, more than half of the studied addicted persons had low effective coping regarding coping level and about one quarter of them had moderate effective coping regarding to coping level. Conclusion: This study concluded that there was a statistically significant negative correlation between total needs level and total coping, study showed high statistically significant positive correlation between the total health problems level and total coping. Recommendations: Replication of the current study on a larger probability sample selected from different geographical areas in Egypt to achieve generalization of the results.
