Effectiveness of COVID-19 Guidelines on Knowledge and Preventive Behaviors among Internship Nursing Students: Quasi-experimental Study

Abstract

Background: Children experience particular challenges in their life phases.   One of these specific challenges is being susceptible to infectious diseases like coronavirus. Efforts and initiatives are being taken to improve intern nurses’ knowledge and enhance the best preventive behaviors to reduce the COVID-19 outbreak. Aim: To assess the effectiveness of COVID-19 guidelines on knowledge and preventive behaviors among internship nursing students. Subjects and method: A sample of sixty-two intern nurses participated in a quasi-experimental study at Port Said General Hospitals in Egypt, using two instruments: COVID-19 Knowledge Assessment Questionnaire and Nurses’ Preventive Behaviors Scale toward COVID-19. Results: Statistically significant relationships between total nurses’ knowledge and four items of nurses’ preventive behaviors toward COVID-19 were found throughout three phases of educational sessions. Recommendations: Upgrading the knowledge of nursing students and promoting their preventive behaviors regarding coronavirus disease can be done effectively through continuous educational sessions on this topic.
